Yesterday and Today (a list)

At the end of the previous administration we were in a recession. Today we are in what is known as a "Golidlocks" economy -- "just right" for sustained, longterm growth.

At the end of the previous administration America was still reeling from murderous attacks on our embassies, buildings and warships -- with 9/11 already planned and moving into place. Today America has gone almost four years without a single successful attack on America -- or an American interest outside the Middle East!!!

At the end of the previous administration taxes were high across the board. Today everyone who pays taxes keeps more of their income.

At the end of the previous administration Afghanistan was ruled by the vicious Taliban and was home to the terror training camps and organizational center of al Qaeda. Today Afghanistan is a democratic ally fighting and defeating the terrorists.

At the end of the previous administration Syria was continuing its vicious occupation of Lebanon. Today Lebanon is free.

At the end of the previous administration the horrific terror tactics of the Palestinians was devastating the tiny democracy of Israel. Today terror against our democratic ally is down by over 90 percent.

At the end of the previous administration Pakistan was a nuclear armed enemy of the United States, aiding and abetting the Islamic fascist terrorists behind 9/11 and other murderous attacks upon our civilians. Today Pakistan is an ally of the United States fighting and defeating the terrorists.

At the end of the previous administration our (then) nuclear armed enemy was at the throat of our nuclear armed ally, the democracy of India -- threatening an all-out nuclear war. Today Pakistan and India are playing cricket matches and the terror attacks that were a near-constant against the "infidels" of India have dropped to near nil.

At the end of the previous administration seniors had no prescription drug benefits. Today seniors are better protected than at any time in history.

At the end of the previous administration companies like Enron and Worldcomm were fudging their books and stealing billions from customers, employees and the country. Today companies like Enron have been investigated, caught, stopped, indicted, prosecuted and convicted.

At the end of the previous administration we had gone through one scandal after another including FBI files "showing up" in the First Lady's bedroom. Today, despite the slanders of the Democrats, the only scandals have been leftist media icon Dan Rather forging documents, (Democrat) Sandy Berger cramming top secret documents down his pants, Air America funding their network through the theft of money from the Boys and Girls Clubs and other crimes against America by Democrats.

At the end of the previous administration the stock market bubble had burst and we were in a recession. Today the stock market is high based on realistic growth and potential.

At the end of the previous administration (according to President Clinton) Saddam Hussein was a "threat to America." Today Saddam Hussein is in jail.

At the end of the previous administration, all of the furniture had to be sterilized.

At the end of the previous administration, terrorism was not only ignored but promoted in areas such as Serbia where we are on the wrong side in order to keep the Saudis happy.

Thanks to Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit fame for this link to the Family Law Prof Blog, a new blog that you hopefully will never have any need to use.
This is a great blog with much good info.
My main interest is genealogy, and I have written a genealogy book which you can find along with many articles at my site. I believe it's the only genealogy book of its kind, dealing specifically with search for noble ancestors.

The Vice President's Addiction to Oil Money

The Vice-President touted a list of recommendations formulated by the National Performance Review, an initiative the VP directed that he claimed streamlined the federal bureaucracy, cut unnecessary waste and helped make the government "work better and cost less." The VP said that his report, delivered to the President that day, would continue the drive to "reinvent government."

"The VP did not mention that his recommendations to the president included a plan to give oil companies access to thousands of acres of oil-rich, publicly owned land that the U.S. Navy has held as emergency reserves since 1912. Ever since the federal government earmarked the reserves for military emergencies, the oil industry had tried and failed to pry them away from the Navy.

…"Despite the history of the naval petroleum reserves, despite the royalty revenues that the field continued to generate, the VP recommended that the government put Elk Hills on the auction block. The President took his advice and approved a deal to let oil companies buy some of the reserves. The White House then pushed to have language authorizing the sales inserted in the defense authorization bill, which Congress ultimately approved. Oil companies bid on the field and, finally, the Energy Department announced that the government would sell its interest in the 47,000-acre Elk Hills reserve to Occidental Petroleum Corp. for $3.65 billion. It was the largest privatization of federal property in U.S. history, one that tripled Occidental's U.S. oil reserves overnight. During the months after the sale, Occidental tripled the amount of natural gas extracted from the field.

"Although the Energy Department was required to assess the likely environmental consequences of the proposed sale, it didn't. Instead it hired a private company, ICF Kaiser International, Inc., to complete the assessment. The general chairman of the presidential campaign, sat on the board of directors.

At the end of the previous administration America was still reeling from murderous attacks on our embassies, buildings and warships -- with 9/11 already planned and moving into place. Today America has gone almost four years without a single successful attack on America -- or an American interest outside the Middle East!!!
=====>Yes but now the terrorists have been disenfranchised and now have to be forced out of their current occupation and have to change their ways. How dare the US make those poor people go into a different line of work.

At the end of the previous administration taxes were high across the board. Today everyone who pays taxes keeps more of their income.
=====>And now those people are wasting their money on other things instead of giving it to the ACLU and the homeless. Evan you know those people are too stupid to handle their own money...

At the end of the previous administration Afghanistan was ruled by the vicious Taliban and was home to the terror training camps and organizational center of al Qaeda. Today Afghanistan is a democratic ally fighting and defeating the terrorists.
=====>Uh but NOW the people of Afganistan have to shoulder the burden of being free. Life was easier for them when they had no choicees...

At the end of the previous administration Syria was continuing its vicious occupation of Lebanon. Today Lebanon is free.
=====>That's because the vicious administration has forced them out. How dare the US give freedom to people who didn't want it.

=====>Yes but the evil Hitler-like Bush is stealing the Iraqi oil. Yeah!

=====>Air America are not thieves, they were simply, misappropriating funds. Yeah that's it.

At the end of the previous administration the stock market bubble had burst and we were in a recession. Today the stock market is high based on realistic growth and potential.
=====>Clinton made everyone rich, don't you remember?

At the end of the previous administration (according to President Clinton) Saddam Hussein was a "threat to America." Today Saddam Hussein is in jail.

=====>Liar liar pants on fire. It was only Bush that lied.

You were way too direct and quick to the core principle or 'belief'. You must disguise the direct point that you are repeating continualy by saying it in multiple different ways or 'parables' if you so desire, so that each repeated statement seems to be a new fresh idea. It sure has been working for the Democrats for the last decade. Just look at the numbers! Miami, please stick to what you are best at! Peace to all, and PLEASE do what you can for all the folk in the Mississippi River basin after Katrina. My thoughts and prayers are there for a awhile! They'll need help for years, and I'm confident America will ensure its repair.

I have figured it out. The demorats will use every significant tragedy or news event to bash Bush. We've seen it in Iraq as they put our troops in harms way with their vicious attacks, even calling our troops Nazis. Now we see it with Katrina where the dems will blame bush for a frickin natural disaster and for taking care of a levee. What in God's name does the president have to do with a state issue like building levees or providing transportation for poor people to get out of the city?

NOTHING. This demorat party is on the edge of being an outright criminal organization and I think it's time that they are treated like one.

It's almost comical what the Dems are doing with regard to Bush and a natural disaster. I mean if Bush is to blame for a natural disaster than they are literally elevating Bush to the status of God. Only God could create something as major as a hurricane.

Seriously though it is deplorable that anyone, I mean anyone, would use this occasion to advance any political ideology. It's sick and disgusting and really pisses me off.

Having survived many hurricanes and tropical events in my lifetime it makes me angry that anyone would even try it. Although it doesn't surprise me that it is almost entirely from the left.

Senator_MJM said...

I don't think 'comical' is a word I would use in this case. Reprehensible is more in order. This is an enormous disaster, and it is unfortunate there are those that think they can gain by criticizing the valient efforts of all levels of government and aid, while watching the horror and events through the doom and gloom eyes of the liberal media. There are heros and more heros exceeding expectations every second. It is also unfortunate that it is in these situations where you find out the true character and leadership qualities of your local officials (Mayor of New Orleans comes to mind). People are still dying and are in dire need of help. Please do all that you can to help and support any and all efforts to help this area! There will be plenty of time to do it!

senator I agree. What is worse is the race peddlers like the black congressional caucus that are tryin to make this a racial problem. This is quite dispicable.

Michael J. said...

You people are right on when you mention the fact that the "administration" has NO PLACE WHATSOEVER in planning state evacuations, or to head off a POTENTIAL problem with New Orleans Levees.

The responsibility lies with the Mayor and Governors offices, as well as their related STATE agencies... has anyone noticed that the Mayor, Governor, and 1 of 2 senators are Democrats?

Why is it that every war and tragedy the USA suffers, is due toa democrat in charge... look at Vietnam, WW2, Cuban missile crisis, hostage crisis during Carter Admin, pre-9/11 attacks, 9/11 itself, end of 90's economic recession, Katrina (levees and evacuation plan)etc.... (the list goes on)... all either had democrat presidents immediately before the tragedy, or democrat local officials in charge during the tragedy.

=====>So what? That's not even the problem. Forget that they are Democrats for the moment. This typ eo fplanning involves MORE than just the government. EVERYONE needs to be aware of what to do or where to go. We have to become more self-reliant. I am not trying to defend anyone here mind you. I am just saying that people need to take more responsility on them selves.

======>I think it goes deeper than just Democrats being in charge. I for one feel that thee is much blame to be placed on the enviromentalists who have been trying to cut off the Army Corps of Engineers budget year after year. But that is for another day. I am still waiting for my orders to deploy to the region to help.

The Foreign Exchange market, also referred to as the "Forex" or "FX" market is the largest financial market in the world, with a daily average turnover of US$1.9 trillion -- 30 times larger than the combined volume of all U.S. equity markets.
"Foreign Exchange" is the simultaneous buying of one currency and selling of another. Currencies are traded in pairs, for example Euro/US Dollar (EUR/USD) or US Dollar/Japanese Yen (USD/JPY).

There are two reasons to buy and sell currencies. About 5% of daily turnover is from companies and governments that buy or sell products and services in a foreign country or must convert profits made in foreign currencies into their domestic currency. The other 95% is trading for profit, or speculation.

For speculators, the best trading opportunities are with the most commonly traded (and therefore most liquid) currencies, called "the Majors." Today, more than 85% of all daily transactions involve trading of the Majors, which include the US Dollar, Japanese Yen, Euro, British Pound, Swiss Franc, Canadian Dollar and Australian Dollar.

A true 24-hour market, Forex trading begins each day in Sydney, and moves around the globe as the business day begins in each financial center, first to Tokyo, London, and New York. Unlike any other financial market, investors can respond to currency fluctuations caused by economic, social and political events at the time they occur - day or night.

The FX market is considered an Over The Counter (OTC) or 'interbank' market, due to the fact that transactions are conducted between two counterparts over the telephone or via an electronic network. Trading is not centralized on an exchange, as with the stock and futures markets.
