The Left Rallies for Terror in LA

In my someday-to-be-finished book, "Hating What's Right: Why Liberals Wind Up On The Wrong Side of EVERY Issue," I write about the need of the Neo-Liberal to intentionally make himself stupid. That is, the Neo-Liberal isn't congenitally retarded, his brain is not misshapen and incapable of calculating moral and intellectual truths, but, instead, in order to hold onto his ideology the Neo-Liberal needs to intentionally ignore -- pretend he doesn't know -- things that he really does know.

I was reminded of this truth when I attended a rally in support of the Israeli people and watched the pro-terrorist side across the street sceaming their angry -- and brain-dead -- anti-semitic and anti-American jargon.

One of the repeated slanders against the good people of Israel is that the Jews are commiting the "genocide" of the Palestinian Arabs. Obviously many were screaming this lie not because they believed it but because they are so steeped in their pro-evil ideology that ANY lie is deemed "right" by them because it advances their politiccal agenda.

Yet I do not deny that at least some of them threw around this hateful -- and easily disproved -- slander because, with thinking having been outlawed during their upbringing, the obvious and undeniable facts -- facts that they fully-well know -- are of not interest or import to them.

This slander of the Joooooos committing the genocide of the lovely, lovely Islamists has been a staple of leftist propaganda since the day the democracy of Israel was born. That's about sixty years ago. Clearly, if there were ANY truth to this slander, after six decades, this "genocide" would have been completed. Several of the pro-Islamic terror signs equated Israel with the Nazis with one huge -- professionally designed and created -- banner reading "A Holocaust in Gaza." But Hitler was able to wipe out almost all of the Jews of Europe -- using technology ages less advanced than those avvailable today -- in just five years. The evil Joooooos, for some reason, can't finish the job six decades later? It doesn't make sense. Ah, but sense is meaningless to the Neo-Liberal to whom the support of evil is the only intellectual end they are allowed to seek.

In fact, during this "genocide" the Palestinian population has skyrocketed -- making this the first genocide in human history where the population of the "victims" has actually grown.

The media, of course, we there...doing their job of slanting the truth in favor of the evil-doers as well. So confident are the leftists in the fact that the media is working on their behalf, they don't even try to hide the fact that this pro-Palestinian rally was, in reality, a communist organized, funded, coordinated and run, anti-freedom event. Huge banners screaming the name of the oragnizers -- International Answer dominated the scene, with the sloganeering leftists using the bull horn to alternately lie against the democracy of Israel and seek contributions for the communists. There was, of course, you usual posters of the communist mass murderer Che Guevera.

Why do Neo-Liberals side invariably with evil, failure and wrong? The answer is simple: raised to believe that rational and moral thought are acts of bigotry and that as "multiculturalists" all cultures are equally right and equally valid, then, in the words of Dinesh D'Souza, the multiculturalist must DE FACTO beccome an apologist for tyranny. It only follows, then, that those to whom discriminating moral and intellectual thought is a hate crime, that they must explain ALL evil, failure and wrong and attack all that is good, right and successful. It's no surprise, then, that those who see the greatest enmity from the Neo-Liberal are the good, right and successful be they the Jews or Christian America.

Lol...is this moron "pretending he doesn' know" that among the myriad, amusing fiascos by The Ridiculous Right this year was their latest attempt at swaying Jewish voters away from the Democratic party, especially in Florida, this time with accusations that Obama, among others, is weak on Israel, and hints that he was a Muslim.

The result: just ONE IN FIVE Jewish voters picked McCain. Perhaps the fact that there are only THREE REPUBLICAN JEWS IN CONGRESS(versus FORTY TWO (42) Democrats) should have been a hint that there was far more work to do there than simply brandishing the specter of Islam and evil Palestinians in the White House. And that the party's rush to out-Christian itself is probably unlikely to appeal to people who are, well, not Christian, including Jews, Muslims, and the rapidly growing population of agnostics, to name a few.

Next time you have a serious thesis to put forward, consider working it into the form of a comedy skit...

Jews hate Republicans even more than the general population. ...from Haaretz: Barack Obama wins 77 percent of Jewish vote, exit polls show

Despite the tense rift between Republican and Democratic Jews over the course of the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign, exit polls on Tuesday showed that Barack Obama received about 77 percent of the Jewish vote.

These numbers were higher even than the 2004 election, when Democratic candidate John Kerry received 74 percent of the Jewish vote. Al Gore received the highest percentage of Jewish votes in 2000, with 79 percent.

Jeremy Ben-Ami, executive director of the J Street lobby group on Tuesday called Obama's victory a sign that the campaign waged against him by Republican Jews comprised "baseless smears."

"American Jews resoundingly rejected the two-year, multi-million dollar campaign of baseless smears and fear waged against him by the right wing of our community," he said. "Surrogates and right-wing political operatives in our community stopped at nothing in their efforts to sway Jewish voters against Obama."

"We can only hope that these results put to rest for good the myth that fear and smear campaigns - particularly around Israel - can be an effective political weapon in the Jewish communit," he added.

A Gallup poll released in late October showed Jewish voters favored Barack Obama over John McCain by more than 3 to 1, with 74% saying they would vote for Obama over 22% for McCain.

I thought this was a nice summation of the year in conservatism...

The Top Dozen Insights of Conservatives, 2008

It was a brutal year for the conservative movement, which at long last came crashing down after dominating American politics for nearly 30 years. One small consolation for at least some leading thinkers on the right is that they began to demonstrate perceptiveness that by and large eluded them in preceding years. Here are the top twelve insights of prominent conservatives in 2008:

P.J. O' Rourke, The Weekly Standard

An entire generation has been born, grown up, and had families of its own since Ronald Reagan was elected. And where is the world we promised these children of the Conservative Age? Where is this land of freedom and responsibility, knowledge, opportunity, accomplishment, honor, truth, trust, and one boring hour each week spent in itchy clothes at church, synagogue, or mosque? It lies in ruins at our feet, as well it might, since we ourselves kicked the shining city upon a hill into dust and rubble.

***********

David Brooks, The New York Times

Now it's just a circular firing squad with everybody attacking each other and no coherent belief system, no leaders. You got half the party waiting for Sarah Palin to come rescue them. The other half waiting for Bobby Jindal, the Louisiana governor, to come rescue them. But no set of beliefs, really a decayed conservative infrastructure. It's just a world of pain.

***************

Matthew Continetti, The Weekly Standard

The GOP is shell-shocked from last month's election results. The gains the party made in the years since the 1994 Republican revolution have been erased. Republicans are without a clear agenda. People say that Republicans don't have any ideas, but that isn't entirely true. They have plenty of ideas--but too many of them are about which part of their coalition is to blame for their current misfortunes.
This sort of squabbling is less than useless. It's inward-looking, woolly-headed, and only furthers the perception that the GOP is out of touch. Unfortunately, when Republicans have tried to be in touch, they've been tempted to be irresponsible. In September, more than a few were ready to risk the global banking system's collapse in the hopes that they could ride anti-Wall Street populism to victory.

********************

Alan Greenspan, former Federal Reserve chairman

I made a mistake in presuming that the self-interests of organizations, specifically banks and others, were such that they were best capable of protecting their own shareholders and their equity in the firms.

*************

Andrew Sullivan, The Atlantic

The crisis is at two levels - the dreadful incompetence and incoherence of the Bush-Cheney administration, which has poisoned the Republican brand for more than one generation, and the emergence of inherent flaws in several strains of conservative thought.
The banking crisis is so close to us and so unresolved it's hard to see it in context, but I fear that Greenspan is right: it's a huge flaw that cannot be explained away by government. The limits of hard power are, in fact, perfectly in line with conservatism's deeper insights into human affairs, with Bush and Cheney acting more as over-reaching utopians than conservative statesmen. And the social conservatism problem has been a function of Christianism: an inability to shape society as it is because their theological doctrine demands adherence to eternal dogma not development of pragmatic policy. So we have their rigid refusal to countenance any legal abortion or any civil recognition of gay couples.

Grappling with any one of these problems would be serious enough. Untangling all three at once? The GOP had better hope Obama really screws up.

***************

Rod Dreher, Beliefnet

There is a conservative Establishment -- a political establishment, yes, but also a think-tank establishment and an opinion-leader establishment -- that has become ossified in its thinking and, over time, more interested in policing its heretics than in thinking creatively about conservatism and its application to the challenges facing our nation and our culture at this particular time. That establishment is dying.

*************

Ross Douthat, The Atlantic

Conservatism in the United States faces a series of extremely knotty problems at the moment. How do you restrain the welfare state at a time when the entitlements we have are broadly popular, and yet their design puts them on a glide path to insolvency? How do you respond to the socioeconomic trends - wage stagnation, social immobility, rising health care costs, family breakdown, and so forth - that are slowly undermining support for the Reaganite model of low-tax capitalism? How do you sell socially-conservative ideas to a moderate middle that often perceives social conservatism as intolerant? How do you transform an increasingly white party with a history of benefiting from racially-charged issues into a party that can win majorities in an increasingly multiracial America? etc.
Watching the McCain campaign, you'd barely even know that these problems exist, let alone that conservatives have any idea what to do about them.

*************

Kathleen Parker, syndicated columnist

The movement created by that superelite, but never elitist, William F. Buckley Jr. was handed over to Joe Six-Pack. Know-nothingness was no longer a stigma, but a badge of honor. The Republican Party's Baghdad Bobism with regard to Palin, a denial so pernicious that party operatives were willing to let her sit a heartbeat away from the presidency in a time of war and financial collapse, revealed what really ails the party. The 'P Factor' isn't a single person but a sickness that will have to be acknowledged and cured--Republicans will be reciting their newly tailored principles only to themselves.

**************

David Frum, American Enterprise Institute

Sarah Palin symbolizes a party that has decided that we just don't care about making the government work anymore.

********************

Colin Powell, former Secretary of State

Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh? Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather that our better instincts?

**************

Rich Lowry, The National Review

Tuesday's Republican debacle was, as the social scientists say, 'over-determined.' It had many causes. Was it brought on by congressional corruption, Bush administration incompetence, intellectual exhaustion or John McCain's failings as a candidate? All of the above -- and then some....
One temptation will be to say that if only Republicans had stayed truer to the faith, especially on fiscal discipline, none of this would have happened. Earmarks unquestionably contributed to the culture of corruption that has so bedeviled Republicans in recent years. But fighting them became an overriding obsession of some conservatives and of McCain, as if opposing earmarks alone -- 1 percent of federal spending -- would constitute a winning economic agenda.

*****************

William Kristol, The Weekly Standard and The New York Times

I can't help but admire some of my fellow conservatives' loyalty to the small-government cause. It reminds me of the nobility of Tennyson's Light Brigade, as it charges into battle: 'Theirs but to do and die.' Maybe it would be better, though, first to reason why.

Excellent and important question.

> The answer is simple: raised to
> believe that rational and moral
> thought are acts of bigotry ...

Unfortunately, that is not the right answer.

The right answer is that when there is conflict between the rational and the moral, most people will choose the moral.

The fact is, there has always been a conflict between rationality -- the supreme value human life depends on -- and the idea that morality consists of sacrificing one's judgment, values, and life to something higher than oneself.

To see that result of sacrificial morality trumping rationality in history, read Leonard Peikoff's book, The Ominous Parallels, explaining how a civilized country like Germany gave rise to Hitler. To see a prediction made 5 decades ago as to why and how the conflict would result in our current moral and economic collapse, read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged.

GOP Analyst:

"The California Republican Party Is Dead’
Dec. 29, 2008

More evidence that Californians are no longer buying what Republicans are selling:

“The California Republican Party is dead,” election analyst Tony Quinn, himself a Republican, wrote last week on Fox & Hounds Daily, a political blog. “Call the undertaker, haul away the corpse.”

Starkest of all was McCain’s loss to Barack Obama in the presidential contest last month by a staggering 3.3 million votes — or a margin of 61 percent to 37 percent. Since 1900, the only Republican nominee for the White House to be trounced by a wider gap in California was Alf Landon, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s challenger in 1936.

Also alarming for conservatives is the hemorrhaging of Republicans from the state’s voter rolls, even in the party’s longtime strongholds. When California’s election map was last adjusted in 2002, Republicans made up more than half of the voters in 11 of the state’s 173 congressional or legislative districts, and Democrats held 66. Now, Republicans constitute a majority in zero, and Democrats hold 57.

Here is Quinn’s postmortem:

Republicans have spent years in denial while suburb after suburb has gone Democratic, hallucinating that “proud pro-life conservatives” can still win in California. Voters just turned down parental consent for abortion for the third time; how many times do Republicans need to be told this is a pro-choice state. Their social issue stands have destroyed the GOP in California’s suburbs…

But it is their xenophobic attitude toward Latinos, that dates all the way back to Gov. Pete Wilson and Proposition 187, that has done the most to sink the GOP. Minority owned small businesses are the fastest growing. Asians and Latinos are moving into the suburbs. Virtually every district Republicans have lost over the past 20 years shows Latino suburban and middle class growth.

Republicans even lost ground in Sacramento, where Democrats added one seat in the Senate and two in the Assembly to their majorities.

Despite the fact that the most expensive anti-gay campaign ever — $40 million — could not turn out their voters.

It won’t be anytime soon, says Tony Quinn, because the party’s members are literally dying off. “At 31.3 percent of registered voters,” he writes, “California Republicans are at the lowest point in the history of the state. And they will go lower, as elderly white voters pass on. Sometime in the next decade, [registered independents] will pass Republicans.”

A. Ignore the missles
B. Not ignore the missles
C. Appease the UN by sacrificing my own people

Gee, option A sounds a lot like option C.

If I am Hamas, I can shoot missiles at Israel because I believe that:

A. they are going to ignore missiles
B. not ignore missiles because of the UN, or
C. I am going to hide my missiles behind my OWN family members and then bitch like HELL when they discover that and bomb my miserable ass for hiding munitions behind my OWN FAMILY! Then we put on a real show because I was too dumb to protect my own damn family.

What the hell people?

Do you think that Israel protecting itself now and Israel protecting itself under the Obama regime is a mistake? They already know that Obama does not care for them at all.

They also know that they are going to defend their families at all costs.

You do not have to be a rocket scientist for this question.

U.S.-installed Iraqi ex-PM says Bush "utter failure"
Sat Jan 3, 2009

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S.-installed Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi has denounced the policies of President George W. Bush as an "utter failure" that gave rise to the sectarian venom that ravaged his country.

Allawi ruled Iraq for almost a year after U.S. occupation officials handed power to him in 2004 as prime minister of an interim government. He was selected by a council hand-picked by Washington after the 2003 invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.

"Yes, Bush's policies failed utterly," said Allawi, describing the U.S. administration that once backed him. "Utter failure. Failure of U.S. domestic and foreign policy, including fighting terrorism and economic policy."

"His insistence on names like 'democracy' and 'open elections', without giving attention to political stability, was a big mistake. It cast shadows on Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Egypt, and I believe this will be remembered in history as President Bush's policy," he said.

GAZA CITY (AFP) – At least 13 Palestinians, including two boys, were killed on Saturday when an Israeli air raid struck a mosque during prayers in the northern town of Jabaliya, medics and witnesses said.

Another 60 people were wounded, 16 of them critically, on the strike on the Ibrahim al-Maqadna mosque, which was reduced to rubble, they said.

Two brothers, 10 and 12 years old, were among the dead, medics said.

More than 200 people were inside the mosque praying when it was struck, witnesses said.

The Israeli military has destroyed several mosques during its week-long offensive on Hamas targets in its Gaza stronghold, saying the Islamists used the houses of worship to store weapons.

Evan, you have a brilliant mind, but you attribute much too much sophistication to the liberal mind. What you are observing is a genetic trait -- specifically the absence of capacity for rational thought. From the dawn of man until roughly 75 years ago, humans born with this trait simply didn't live long enough to procreate. Survival of the fittest ruled. "Hey look everyone, this cave is full of the cutest baby bears. I'm going in to pet them!" "That nice family of Gypsies had no food to eat for the winter so I gave them 100% of the food we've saved. Isn't that wonderful?"

The reason liberals are wrong on virtually every issue is that they can't think their way through the simplest of matters without succumbing to multiple false premises. To the liberal, all cats are animals, all dogs are animals, therefore catdogs are a rare and endangered species that must be protected at all possible cost.

Absent the capacity for rational thought, which gives us the ability to distinguish between poison and food, good and bad, right and wrong etc..., those with this debilitating deficiency rely instead on "feel good" and "face value" thinking.

The real question is what do we do about them...

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson on Sunday announced that he was withdrawing his nomination to be President-elect Barack Obama's commerce secretary amid a grand jury investigation into how some of his political donors won a lucrative state contract.

Uh-oh. Another Clinton era crook exposed.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has withdrawn his name from consideration as commerce secretary for President-elect Barack Obama, citing an ongoing investigation about business dealings in his state.

Richardson, 61, who competed unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination, was secretary of energy and U.N. ambassador during Bill Clinton's presidency, and also the first high-profile Latino named to Obama's Cabinet.

But a grand jury in New Mexico is currently looking into charges of "pay-to-play" in the awarding of a state contract to a company that contributed to Richardson.

The importance of the inquiry was apparently dismissed when Richardson was first nominated. But it may have taken on more weight in light of the "pay-to-play" allegations involving Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich doesn't have many friends these days, particularly among the lawmakers who will decide whether to throw him out of office.

The vote to begin impeachment proceedings was unanimous. Former allies have fallen silent since his Dec. 9 arrest on federal corruption charges. Members of a special impeachment committee are uniformly negative in their comments and questions.

"Isn't anyone here going to stand up for the governor?" Blagojevich attorney Ed Genson asked the committee last week.

The response was silence.

Sources tell ABC News that officials on the Obama Transition Team feel that before he was formally offered the job of commerce secretary, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson was not forthcoming with them about the federal investigation that is looking into whether the governor steered a state contract towards a major financial contributor.

Once the investigation became more widely known through national media reports last month, sources tell ABC News, the Obama Transition Team realized the FBI would not be able to give Richardson a clean political bill of health before the new administration is ready to send his nomination up to the Senate for confirmation.

The Richardson camp says the governor was forthcoming, with sources close to the governor noting that there had been reports about the controversy in local media such as the Albuquerque Journal as far back as August 2008. The governor discussed the investigation with the Obama team, they say, and believes that he and his administration have done nothing wrong.

From 2004 to 2005, CDR Financial Products, a Beverly Hills, Calif.-based company founded and run by David Rubin, received nearly $1.5 million through the New Mexico Finance Authority for advising the state in a complex highway funding project pushed by Richardson. In roughly that same time period, CDR and Rubin gave approximately $100,000 to political organizations run by Richardson, including one that paid for his and his staff's expenses at the 2004 Democratic convention. Neither the grand jury nor the FBI has interviewed Richardson.

Barack Obama's chances of making a fresh start in US relations with the Muslim world, and the Middle East in particular, appear to diminish with each new wave of Israeli attacks on Palestinian targets in Gaza. That seems hardly fair, given the president-elect does not take office until January 20. But foreign wars don't wait for Washington inaugurations.

Obama has remained wholly silent during the Gaza crisis. His aides say he is following established protocol that the US has only one president at a time. Hillary Clinton, his designated secretary of state, and Joe Biden, the vice-president-elect and foreign policy expert, have also been uncharacteristically taciturn on the subject.

But evidence is mounting that Obama is already losing ground among key Arab and Muslim audiences that cannot understand why, given his promise of change, he has not spoken out. Arab commentators and editorialists say there is growing disappointment at Obama's detachment - and that his failure to distance himself from George Bush's strongly pro-Israeli stance is encouraging the belief that he either shares Bush's bias or simply does not care.

The Al-Jazeera satellite television station recently broadcast footage of Obama on holiday in Hawaii, wearing shorts and playing golf, juxtaposed with scenes of bloodshed and mayhem in Gaza. Its report criticising "the deafening silence from the Obama team" suggested Obama is losing a battle of perceptions among Muslims that he may not realise has even begun.

Jews Rally for Terror:

One of the most hopeful developments in the American Jewish community over recent years has been the creation of J Street, the new pro-peace, pro-two state solution lobbying organization. In The Forward, Eric Yoffe, President of the Union of Reform Judaism attacked J Street's refusal to get on board with the Gaza attack. Here J Street responds.

Statement in response to Rabbi Eric Yoffie’s Comments in the Forward on December 31
-----------------------------------

Posted by: Jeremy Ben-Ami | January 4th, 2009

J Street takes serious issue with Rabbi Eric Yoffie’s op-ed in the December 31st Forward, in which he attacks us for questioning the wisdom of the Gaza assault.

Our position on the crisis reflects our support for Israel, our hope for its security and our sympathy with the ongoing suffering of the people on both sides in this conflict. It is hard for us to understand how the leading reform rabbi in North America could call our effort to articulate a nuanced view on these difficult issues “morally deficient.” If our views are “naïve” and “morally deficient”, then so are the views of scores of Israeli journalists, security analysts, distinguished authors, and retired IDF officers who have posed the same questions about the Gaza attack as we have.

And, when tens of thousands of pro-Israel American Jews are joining with statements made by J Street, Americans for Peace Now, Brit Tzedek, Israel Policy Forum and others calling for a ceasefire – it is simply wrong to call these views out of touch with Jewish sentiment.

American Jews are, as Rabbi Yoffie says, by and large sensible and centrist, and they support Israel in her hour of need. But many of those same Jews – and their friends who want the best for Israel – are well within their rights and within the centrist mainstream to question the wisdom of the actions taken this week, to question where they will lead and to ask the US and others to help bring an end to the violence as quickly as possible.

They are also in line with many in Israel, where on Friday, 30 peace organizations (including the Peres Center for Peace, the Geneva Initiative and Peace Now) signed a public call for an immediate ceasefire, joining such pillars of the national conscience as David Grossman and Amos Oz.

J Street understands that Hamas is a terrorist organization and a harsh enemy. We are neither dovish nor pacifist, nor are we blindly opposed to the use of force. We support Israel in defending and protecting its citizens from attack, including through military action if necessary and appropriate to the threat. We believe, however, that force cannot be Israel’s only or preponderant response – even to Hamas.

We are pragmatists grounded in the real world and the lessons it teaches. As such – and as avid supporters of Israel – we are asking whether the specific actions taken by Israel in Gaza actually do advance Israel’s and America’s interests. In this case, J Street believes they do not. We believe that the actions taken this week – disproportionate to the threat and escalatory in nature – will be seen, with time, as counterproductive. They will further isolate Israel and the US internationally, deepen hatred among the Palestinian and Israel peoples, foment extremism throughout the Arab world and undercut the position of more moderate Arab regimes

Further, we have asked from the first day of this operation, for clarity as to Israel’s exit strategy. An operation of this scale is easy to start, but far more difficult to wind down successfully. The alternatives without a ceasefire – ongoing Israeli reoccupation of Gaza, re-imposition by force of Fatah rule or international/Arab forces taking over – all are either undesirable or unrealistic.

J Street believes the only option at this point for Israel and the U.S. is to work urgently and immediately to achieve a ceasefire now that stops the violence, ends the rockets and eases the blockade of Gaza, rather than allowing a ground campaign to proceed. Perhaps if similar calls had been made – and heeded – in the first week of the Lebanon War in 2006, much of the damage and loss in the conflict could have been avoided.

Anshel Pfeffer, correspondent for Ha’aretz, portrayed the debate within the Jewish community outside Israel today slightly differently than Rabbi Yoffie. To him, the three parties to the debate are, first, the “large number of Pavlovian flag-wavers, good and innocent Zionists and Jews who see only the trauma inflicted on the people of Sderot, Ashkelon and other parts of the country’s south-west” and, second, those on the far left who feel “compelled to atone for Israel’s manifold sins and join its enemies in the demonstrations and sign petitions accusing the Zionist entity of war crimes.”

Then, says Pfeffer, there is a

“third stream of Jews - perhaps not the widest one, but I believe quite significant - who have more complex and uncomfortable feelings on the matter. They care deeply for Israel and understand even why its government felt compelled to launch the devastating Operation Cast Lead, but they are extremely disturbed and hurt by the level of civilian deaths and destruction that almost seems part and parcel of the action. Surely, they say, there must, there has to be another way of doing this. And they live with those doubts, often unexpressed, even among families and close friends because the worst thing they find is that others around them don’t seem to discern between the different nuances, and can’t find in themselves compassion for the dead and wounded on the other side. They begin asking themselves very awkward questions: Are they surrounded by latent racists, or is something wrong with them that denies the feelings of certainty of those around them? Or does everyone have similar doubts but are simply afraid to express them?”

J Street proudly identifies itself as swimming in this third, centrist stream. The only difference: we are unwilling to leave our doubts unexpressed. The views we hold may not be those of Rabbi Yoffie, and that’s fine. We accept and welcome an open and honest debate about the merits of our pro-Israel positions.

But to call our views “morally deficient”, “naïve” and “out of touch” with Jewish sentiment is to misread the emerging dynamics of centrist, pro-Israel Jews.

Embarrassin for you nazis is the fact that US Jews are overwhelmingly LIBERAL.

It must really be extrememly embarrassing for you fudgepackers that the vast majority of Jews are STRAIGHT, too.

Evan,
Excellent work. I think the preceding comments speak volumes for the simple fact that you are correct in your assessments, both your general ones, and--as shown here--your conclusion that modern liberals operate on a pre-K level of emotional and intellectual understanding.

What you may or may not have realized, is the extent to which Saul "The Red" Alinsky's work has percolated throughout our public discourse. He taught his students that insult and verbal abuse was far superior to rational discourse, for the simple reason that it is hard to respond to--impossible to respond rationally to, since you can't get a duck egg out of a chicken--and it shuts up people you disagree with.

He also, therefore, taught his students to reject the entirety of our Western liberal heritage, where liberal is the thought and policies of men like Adam Smith and John Stewart Mill.
He sought creatures, not people, and he sought power, not enlightenment. His homage to Satan was, of course, virtually superfluous.

What I don't think his creatures realize, though, is that all of the nations by whom we might be overtaken will lump them together with the rest of us, in the same ashheap. Some of them want to die, but the rest seemingly just want to avoid at any cost the burden of a rational, responsible life.

Liberals Relish New Clout as Session Starts

By Alan K. Ota, CQ Staff

The Democratic Party’s liberal wing will begin a hard push this week to consolidate power in the House and advance its agenda with a quiet assist from a longtime champion, Speaker Nancy Pelosi .

Leaders of the Democrats’ liberal faction, such as House Appropriations Chairman David R. Obey of Wisconsin, scored an early victory when Pelosi agreed to a change in House rules that will solidify their clout.

Obey and several other liberal chairmen of powerful committees are among the biggest beneficiaries from the Democratic Caucus’ decision to omit the three-term limit on committee chairmen that dates to the Republican takeover of Congress after the 1994 election.

The caucus reviewed Monday night this and other changes that are part of the rules package the full chamber will adopt Tuesday to govern its internal operations in the 111th Congress.

The rule change comes on the heels of the caucus’ highly unusual decision to oust a sitting “old bull” chairman in favor of a younger — and much more liberal — upstart. John D. Dingell of Michigan was removed as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and replaced by Henry A. Waxman of California.

Dingell is a moderate who has looked out for the interests of his home state auto industry, which has led him to oppose strong measures to combat global warming favored by many other Democrats.

Liberal Democrats begin the new session at a high-water mark in the House. Democratic aides say liberals account for more than half of the party’s 257 seats and will wield gavels on nearly two-thirds of the 21 full committees.

After years of frustration, liberals say they hope to seize momentum from the election and move long-delayed measures with the help of President-elect Barack Obama .

“It’s going to be a progressive Congress. There’s no doubt about that. It’s been a long time coming,’’ said Obey, whose office resembles a shrine to the glory days of progressivism, including a photo of Sen. Robert M. LaFollette of Wisconsin (1906-1925), the hero of progressives.

Senate majority leader Harry Reid can be such a tease. On Sunday, the Nevada Democrat suggested that Illinois Gov. Blagojevich’s appointment of Roland Burris to replace The One in what is facetiously called the world’s greatest deliberative body might not be welcomed with open arms.

In his trademark high-pitched voice that thrills Canine-Americans everywhere, Reid said of Burris’s becoming a senator: “It’s going to be very difficult for that to occur.” Then, realizing that his statement could possibly offend felons or other core Democratic constituencies, he backed off slightly with “I’ve learned, being a senator for the time I have, that anything can happen.”

That someone like Reid is the Senate majority leader is corroboration of how right he is. I’ve been critical of Milorad many times over the years. But, in this case at least, he’s done himself and the people who’ve repeatedly elected him proud. That’s because Roland Burris will do quite well in the U.S. Senate.

Being a liberal will mean that he gets good press coverage much of the time. Illinoisans will burst with pride as the mainstream media agree that, despite who put him there, Burris is a genuine credit to the Senate.

Roland thoroughly understands politics and how government works. He’s given money to Blagojevich. His lobbying firm has given money to Blagojevich. His law firm has given money to Blagojevich. His clients have given money to Blagojevich. Not that there’s any connection at all, but Burris operations have received state contracts worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Clearly, here’s a man ready to hit the ground running when he enters Washington.

He boasts other credentials. Like Reid, Burris isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. The late Steve Neal, political columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times, wrote during one of Roland’s campaigns:

“Though Burris is a very nice man who wants very much to be the state’s next governor, he’s not always quick on the uptake. Burris often finds it difficult to respond to questions about controversial issues. When the going gets tough, Burris is often a profile in caution.”

Neal quoted the candidate during a previous race: “I’m being very vague here because I want at the proper time to have enough latitude to espouse these issues.” If you watched Blagojevich’s announcement of his selection, you saw Burris bumbling through a handful of press questions. Looking flustered and bewildered, he summoned Congressman Bobby Rush to the podium for help. Rush used to be the Black Panthers’ “defense minister” and maybe Roland hoped Bobby was packing heat just in case it was necessary.

Burris, former state comptroller and attorney general, doesn’t let a little thing like a deficiency in coherence keep him from having a colossal ego. Here again, Roland will fit right in with his new associates.

Running for the Senate in 1984, he modestly proclaimed, “Illinois is the land of Lincoln. Maybe someday it will be the Land of Burris.” He once said that if he were white instead of black he already would be president of the United States.

“I am Senator Burris,” he reminds anyone who’ll listen to him. He hasn’t been certified by the secretary of state or seated in the Senate or sworn in, but he is already Senator Burris. This means, apparently, that reporters will no longer have to address him as “general,” his longtime preference. Though he never served in the military, he liked that title a lot and based it on his former position of state attorney general.

Roland speaks of himself in the third person. His son is Roland II and his daughter Rolanda. He’s modestly described himself as a “visionary” and accepts as fact that he was “divinely directed.”

Then there’s the granite mausoleum he’s constructed for himself in a Chicago cemetery. It reads like a resume. With “Trail Blazer” displayed in large letters, it cites various Burris accomplishments. Did you know, for example, that this divinely directed visionary was the first African-American Southern Illinois University exchange student to the University of Hamburg, Germany in 1959-1960?

Senator Reid and his Democratic colleagues will ultimately set aside their sham objections, cordially greet Roland, and find he is indeed a kindred spirit. Illinoisans can hope that Caroline Kennedy is named New York’s senator and Minnesota lets Al Franken complete his theft of its available seat. Compared to those two, Roland Burris may well come out looking like famed statesman and Senate great Daniel Webster.

Guess why Congress poll numbers are so bad: Republicans
Posted: 06 Jan 2009 12:07 PM PST

We've heard and seen many news reports about how unpopular Congress is with the American people. And it is at an all time low, but what most TV analysts are refusing to point out is that it's the Republicans in Congress that are dragging down the approval rating. As a new Gallup poll shows us--Republicans in Congress Less Popular Than Bush:
As Gallup showed last month, congressional Democrats are significantly more esteemed than Bush-- and significantly more esteemed than their Republican colleagues in Congress. According to the latest Gallup Poll, 67% of Americans disapprove of Bush, while 69% disapprove of Republicans in the House and Senate and only 55% disapprove of Democrats in the House and Senate.
I've talked to some of our Blue America candidates and they told me that since '06, the Republicans did everything they could to block and obstruct the daily business of the Congress in hopes that America would have a bad opinion of the House and Senate and it would lead to them retaking or making big gains in '08 and 2010.
The 25% approval rating for the Republicans in Congress establishes a new Gallup Poll low, surpassing the 26% measured about this time last year. Gallup first began asking about approval of the Congressional parties in 1999.
Well, Americans aren't buying their me first---America second attitude and in the end if they obstruct Obama's agenda from the outset then they will only fall deeper into the dark hole they have dug for themselves and America. I'm hoping they do just that so it knocks out some of the bipartisan rhetoric Obama is using, because they will not be willing players in the restoration of America and hand Obama a win. Never. Going. To. Happen. I think Obama will get his first stimulus package through with some grumblings from the Mitch McConnell wing and then it'll go downhill from there.
As the Gallup poll points out for all to see: Nobody likes "Republicans."

Mississippi has highest teen birth rate
Wed Jan 7, 2009 5:35pm EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Mississippi has claimed the distinction of having the highest teen birth rate in the United States, a figure more than three times higher than the states with the lowest rates, health officials said on Wednesday.

Mississippi, a comparatively poor state in the South, had a rate of 68.4 births per 1,000 women ages 15 to 19 in 2006, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a report. That marked a 13 percent increase over 2005.

Mississippi often performs badly in health rankings. For example, 33 percent of its population is obese, the highest in the nation.

New Mexico (a rate of 64.1 per 1,000) and Texas (63.1) were next on the list, according to the CDC. Those two states had been tied for the highest in the nation the previous year.

Teen birth rates were highest in the South and Southwest and lowest in the Northeast, the CDC said. The lowest rates were recorded in New Hampshire (18.7), Vermont (20.8) and Massachusetts (21.3), according to the report.

The only states with a decrease in teen birth rates from 2005 to 2006 were North Dakota, Rhode Island and New York.

The CDC previously reported that the nationwide teen birth rate rose in 2006 for the first time in 15 years. The national average was 40.5 births per 1,000 women ages 15 to 19.

Critics have said that one factor in that increase may be recent federal funding for so-called abstinence-only education that does not give information about contraceptives.

It's always amusing to me to observe how, on the Left, discussions about popularity are the functional equivalent of policy discussions.

This is the necessary effect of a mindset which is not oriented around foundational objectives or principles, but rather around the acquisition of power by card carrying Liberals. If Democrats get elected, this line of "thought" goes, surely that is enough.

Of course, this Congress will fail. Obama may or may not, depending on his actual capacity for rational thought. He plays all sides, so it's hard to know just who he really is.

When the Democrats fail, they will blame, who? Republicans. And frankly, to the extent that Republicans abandon their own ideals to get elected by people who have been brainwashed by the ritualistic propagandization which is unavoidable in all our schools, they deserve blame. If they cave in to craven stupidity, as many have, they are part of the problem.

This does not mean that Democrats have ANY useful ideas. They don't. They increase crime, poverty, and the risk of war. They work constantly to destroy the culture of tolerance which has enabled America to achieve such a high level of moral development, that we openly countenance those who want us to fail utterly.

The last honest conservative was Barry Goldwater. Even Reagan tolerated massive growth in our welfare state, and the overall power of the federal government. He retreated from Lebanon. He traded with the Iranians.

We have been needing a massive swing to the left. It has been latent for a long time, because of the ubiquitous indoctrination in our schools and media outlets.

But Leftism doesn't work. Everything it claims to value, it destroys. This will be seen soon enough.

President-elect Barack Obama’s top political aides are transplanting their campaign tactics to the policy arena, using data from polls and focus groups to shape the debate over a stimulus plan that may cost at least $775 billion.

David Axelrod, Obama’s chief political adviser, along with campaign media adviser Jim Margolis, are encouraging lawmakers to use the word “recovery” instead of recession, and “investment” instead of “infrastructure.” Those recommendations came from focus-group research indicating that such framing would make the package more appealing to voters.

The Obama camp is trying to build support for the stimulus proposals, which have encountered resistance from lawmakers of both parties over size and cost. Republicans have employed similar tactics in past policy debates, notably when they labeled the estate tax as the “death” tax in arguing for its repeal.

“Not unlike news organizations, we poll public attitudes about where the economy is,” Robert Gibbs, Obama’s choice for White House press secretary, said in an interview. “We’re not polling to see what should be in an economic-recovery plan.”

Axelrod and Margolis briefed Senate Democratic leaders yesterday morning and their House counterparts at lunch today on the details of the research, participants in the meetings said.

Austrian "economist" crackpots:

When Roberts pointed out that Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman has suggested we need an immediate, massive stimulus, Ron Paul replied, "I doubt if he ever read Austrian economics. I don't even know if he knows who Mises is, and Hayak, and Rothbard -- the people who talk about free market."

In fact, Krugman is fully aware of the economists Paul mentions -- and doesn't think much of them. He recently referred back in his New York Times blog to a column of ten years ago, in which he wrote, "A few weeks ago, a journalist devoted a substantial part of a profile of yours truly to my failure to pay due attention to the 'Austrian theory' of the business cycle -- a theory that I regard as being about as worthy of serious study as the phlogiston theory of fire."

phlogiston theory
phlogiston theory (flōjis'ton) [key], hypothesis regarding combustion. The theory, advanced by J. J. Becher late in the 17th cent. and extended and popularized by G. E. Stahl, postulates that in all flammable materials there is present phlogiston, a substance without color, odor, taste, or weight that is given off in burning. “Phlogisticated” substances are those that contain phlogiston and, on being burned, are “dephlogisticated.” The ash of the burned material is held to be the true material. The theory received strong and wide support throughout a large part of the 18th cent. until it was refuted by the work of A. L. Lavoisier, who revealed the true nature of combustion. Joseph Priestley, however, defended the theory throughout his lifetime. Henry Cavendish remained doubtful, but most other chemists of the period, including C. L. Berthollet, rejected it.

Sexual Predators Prefer Republicans

Convicted felon voted, and there's no turning back
Once the Warroad man put his ballot - marked for Coleman - into the machine, there was no retrieving it.

By PAUL WALSH, Star Tribune

Should it come to pass that Norm Coleman wins his overtime U.S. Senate battle with Al Franken by one vote, the incumbent can thank a convicted felon who illegally cast his ballot in Minnesota's northern reaches.

Eric S. Willems, of Warroad, broke the law Nov. 4 because he voted while being a convicted felon and on supervised release.

And there appears to be nothing any election official or campaign lawyer can do about it.

"His ballot was inserted into the ballot box along with all of the others that day," said Roseau County Auditor Anne Granitz, whose office is in charge of elections in the county.

Once Willems' ballot entered the machine, Granitz said, it was indistinguishable from any other and there is no way to retrieve it.

Willems, convicted in 2004 and imprisoned for having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl when he was 20, told the Grand Forks Herald that he voted for Coleman. There is little chance there are many others like Willems out there who cast ballots under the same felonious circumstances, said Secretary of State spokesman John Aiken. "I know this is extremely rare." He said that in the 2004 and 2006 general elections, there were a combined three ballots cast illegally in Minnesota by felons.

BALTIMORE – Mayor Sheila Dixon was indicted Friday on charges that she accepted illegal gifts during her time as mayor and City Council president, including travel, fur coats and gift cards that she allegedly used for a holiday shopping spree.

A grand jury indicted Dixon on 12 counts, including four counts of perjury and two counts of theft over $500. She was also charged with theft under $500, fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary and misconduct in office.

The State Prosecutor's Office, which has been investigating corruption at City Hall for nearly three years, said Dixon received holiday gift cards for four years from several people. Prosecutors said the gift cards were to be distributed to needy families, but were instead used by Dixon to buy herself electronics, clothes and other merchandise and also handed out to members of her staff.

"I am being unfairly accused," Dixon said in a statement. "Time will prove that I have done nothing wrong, and I am confident that I will be found innocent of these charges."

Dixon said she would not step down. "I will not let these charges deter me from keeping Baltimore on the path that we have set, or from carrying forward the significant progress we have made thus far," she said.

Dixon, a Democrat, served on the City Council from 1988 through 2007 and as council president from 1999 through 2007. She became mayor in January 2007, finishing the term of Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley, and was easily elected to a full, four-year term later that year.

The indictment against Dixon does not name Ronald H. Lipscomb, a prominent developer who briefly dated the mayor and who was indicted Wednesday on one charge of bribing a City Council member. However, previous court documents leave no doubt that Lipscomb is the "Developer A" mentioned in the indictment who showered the mayor with gifts and took several lavish trips with her in late 2003 and early 2004.

Both were married at the time, although they were separated from their spouses. Dixon has since divorced.

The Violent Right Using Reason:

Three charged for seeking out blacks to beat after Obama

Hit man with car, beat another with pipe
Three young men from Staten Island, who allegedly spent Election Night looking for African-Americans to beat up after they became outraged by Barack Obama's victory, are now under federal indictment.

One victim of the group, 17 year old Liberian immigrant Alie Kamara, was beaten with a metal pipe and a police baton and still suffers from headaches and walks with a limp. Kamara's mother told ABC News, "My son didn't deserve what happened to him. ... He had to jump over a fence for his life."

The alleged ringleader, eighteen year old Ralph Nicoletti, is accused of the most heinous crime, deliberately running down a man whom he believed to be African-American as he drove with his friends through a predominantly black neighborhood.

Ronald Forte, who is actually white, was in a coma for 45 days. In a statement to the court, his mother said, "I have to take care of him for the rest of his life now. I had to leave my job to take care of my 38-year-old son because of this senseless act."

Nicoletti is considered the leader of the "Rosebank Krew" or "RBK," which is known for fire-bombing neighborhood homes and cars. He himself has an extensive history of arrests going back to the age of 14.

Nicoletti is being held without bond as a menace to society, while his two co-defendants have been released on bail. All three men are charged with conspiring to "injure, oppress, threaten and intimidate African American citizens of Staten Island." A fourth member of the group has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and is cooperating with federal authorities.

Although Staten Island is a part of New York City, it has always been relatively isolated and had few black residents until the 1960's. Immigrants have reported experiencing harassment there, and in 2003, a rash of racial slurs and threats climaxed in a Labor Day attack.

City officials worked Thursday to quell Oakland's collective anger the day after hundreds of people violently demonstrated downtown to protest last week's fatal shooting of an unarmed black man by a transit police officer.

As merchants worked Thursday morning shoveling shards of glass outside their damaged storefronts, other residents attended a a transit board hearing to express their frustration over the incident.

On New Year's Day, Oscar Grant III, 22, was shot in the back while lying on the platform at the Fruitvale station of the Bay Area Rapid Transit District in Oakland. The transit officer responsible, Johannes Mehserle, resigned on Wednesday, but investigators said efforts to interview him about the circumstances of the shooting had been rebuffed by his lawyers and police union leaders.

"The community does not have confidence in BART investigating itself," Desley Brooks, an Oakland City Council member said at the transit board hearing Thursday.

"That was murder and this gentleman needs to be brought to justice," Amos Brown, a board member of the NAACP, said at the meeting. He was referring to Mehserle, who has not been arrested.

The worst thing that we could do, the thing that would cause absolute chaos, is if we screwed up this investigation," BART spokesman Linton Johnson said Thursday. "We are being diligent, we're completing a thorough investigation. A rush to judgment would mess up the case."

He added: "We need more evidence to make this case rock solid. These things don't happen overnight. Generally it takes a couple of weeks."

What began as a peaceful demonstration Wednesday afternoon to protest the shooting turned violent, with demonstrators setting trash cans and cars on fire and smashing store windows and leading to the arrest of more than 100 people that evening. Police in riot gear responded with tear gas and billy clubs.

Jeff Thomason, a spokesman for the Oakland Police Department, said that those arrested were charged with vandalism, unlawful assembly, rioting and assault on a police officer. Two people who were arrested had handguns.

"We understand this is a very sensitive situation, and that people are very upset about this," Thomason said Thursday, adding that Oakland Police planned to employ extra officers on the city streets Thursday night, and had been in contact with the California Highway Patrol and the Alameda County Sheriff's office.

Dereca Blackmon, co-founder of the Coalition Against Police Executions, which organized the rally, presented the BART board with several demands, including asking the state attorney general and the United States attorney's office to investigate the shooting. She was backed by Keith Carson, of the Alameda County board of supervisors, and local church leaders.

On Wednesday night and Thursday, Mayor Ronald Dellums pleaded for calm as anger simmered in the city's black community.

"We've got to have a real investigation that people can have confidence in," said Dellums on Wednesday night. "And my sense of it is that part of this reaction is that people have lost confidence."

Grant, who had been involved in a scuffle aboard a train after leaving a New Year's Eve celebration in San Francisco, died at a local hospital several hours after being shot. The bullet, which had passed through his lower back, ricocheted into his lung.

The incident was captured by at least four cellphone cameras held by passengers on a train idling next to the platform. The videos, which have been widely broadcast and streamed online, show Grant lying face down when Mehserle, 27, pulls his gun and fires a single shot. Mehserle looks stunned for a moment, and then handcuffs Grant with the assistance of another officer.

Thuyen Tran's family runs a small nail salon 15th Street and Broadway. Tran, 24, said he was upset that his family's business had been damaged, but also understood the anger of the protesters.

"It doesn't make sense, using brutal force," Tran said. "There's no need for five or six officers to be pinning him down."

John Burris, a lawyer for Grant's mother and his live-in girlfriend, said he had asked Tom Orloff, the Alameda County district attorney, to consider filing criminal charges against Mehserle.

"If you can't file charges in a case like this," said Burris, "I don't know what kind of case you can file in."

On Thursday, Grant's family and friends attended a news conference conducted by Burris. "They want the public to know they don't condone in any way the violence that occurred last night," Burris said.

"I am begging the citizens not to use violent tactics, not to be angry," said Wanda Johnson, Grant's mother. "You're hurting people that have nothing to do with the situation. Please stop it, just please stop."

N. Orleans cops shoot man 12 times in the back Andrew McLemore
Published: Friday January 9, 2009

A young, black man in New Orleans is dead, slain by police officers on New Year's Day, in an incident that has outraged a community and triggered protests over what family members are calling a "murder."

The New Orleans man, 22-year-old Adolph Grimes III, traveled to his grandmother's home near the French Quarter in order to celebrate New Year's Eve with his fiance and their 17-month-old son. Three hours after arrival, around 3 a.m., he was found dead a block from the front door.

The Orleans Parish coroner said Grimes was shot 14 times, including 12 times in the back.

"This violence has to stop. My child's death will not be meaningless. He did not die in vain," said Grimes' mother, Patricia Grimes.

An editorial in The Times-Picayune said the shooting "demands answers."

Despite the fact that the SEVEN officers involved in the attack have been reassigned, Superintendent Warren Riley has refused to answer "fundamental questions" about the shooting and maintains that Grimes fired upon his men first.

Several dozen people protested the New Orleans Police Department on Thursday morning to demand justice for Grimes' death.

A mix of people walked paced in front of a police station carrying signs with slogans like "Down with the government" and shouting to passers-by "You could be next!"

A group of black ministers and advocates has called for the department to be purged of "trigger-happy" officers and the Grimes family's attorney, Richard Jenkins is certain an investigation will show rogue cops and sloppy police work.

The shooting of Grimes by the NOPD marks the THIRD high media incident of an officer or officers shooting a seemingly innocent black male thus far in 2009.

In Oakland, Calif, a BART officer shot a 22-year-old black male in the back on New Year's Eve. The slaying was caught on multiple videos, all of which showed the man unarmed, subdued and helpless. The city is still struggling to contain the public's reaction to what appears to be an execution.

Also, in Houston, a 23-year-old black male was shot in his own home's driveway by a white police officer during the early hours of New Year's Eve. According to published reports, the officer thought the man's vehicle was stolen. An internal investigation is underway. While the department has denied allegations of racial profiling related to the shooting, no effort to explain why the officer suspected the vehicle to be stolen has been offered.

UN Commissioner: investigate Israel for war crimes Stephen C. Webster
January 10, 2009

Navi Pillay, the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights, wants an investigation into what she believes to be war crimes committed by Israeli forces.

She specifically highlighted a recent incident in which Israel attacked a civilian safe house in Gaza, killing more than 30 people.

Her stinging words arrived just one evening before Israel began dropping leaflets on Gaza Saturday, each warning of a coming escalation.

The UN Office for the Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs reported that 110 Palestinians, all in a single extended family, were "herded" into the house and told not to leave by Israeli soldiers. Less than 24 hours later, the house was attacked.

“Those who survived and were able walked two kilometers to Salah Ed Din road before being transported to the hospital in civilian vehicles," reads the UN report. "Three children, the youngest of whom was five months old, died upon arrival at the hospital.”

Pillay said the attack bore "all the elements of war crimes," according to a published report.

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, four infants, clinging to the corpses of what was believed to be their parents, were discovered after the attack. The children went undiscovered for over 48 hours, despite Israeli solders being mere yards away.

Pillay, from S. Africa, is a former judge with the International Criminal Court

Calif. man charged for threatening Obama's life over Yahoo
Jeremy Gantz
Friday January 9, 2009

Nearly three months after telling a Yahoo message board that Barack Obama will "have a 50 cal in the head soon," a California man was charged Thursday with threatening a presidential candidate.

After raiding Walter Edward Bagdasarian's home in November, U.S. Secret Service agents found three handguns and three rifles, including a 30.06 with a telescopic sight and a Remington .50 caliber muzzle-loading rifle.

The 47-year-old man is not accused of actually plotting against Obama, and he was released last month on a $100,000 real estate bond, according to Wired.

The message board post in question, which appeared on Oct. 22, about two weeks before the election, was titled "Shoot the nig."

"County fkd for another 4+ years, what nig has done ANYTHING right???? Long term???? Never in history, except sambos... Fk the niggar, he will have a 50 cal in the head soon," the message concluded. Bagdasarian reportedly admitted authoring the message during an interview with Secret Service agents.

It was not the first time Obama's life had been threatened. Last August, a Florida man was charged with threatening Obama after saying "That nigger, if he gets elected, I'll assassinate him myself."

In October, two white supremacists were arrested for allegedly plotting a killing spree that would culminate with Obama's assassination. Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., near Jackson, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, of Helena-West Helena, Ark., had collected an arsenal of weapons and "stated they would dress in all-white tuxedos and wear top hats during the assassination attempt," according to a federal affadavit.

They weren't "too weak" to stand with the zionazis, moron...they just didn't want to tell you what a fool you were at dinner.

The Christian Conservative Mom said...

I concur. Actually tonight my mother and I went to eat at a restaurant on our plaza and there were about 300 pro-Palestinian protesters (mostly college students) out with their signs and hate speech and I commented to my mother that this generation scares me because they are so anti-war that they don't even care what they are arguing for or against so long as there is no war...

But after thinking about it, I realized that since June Hamas has been firing rockets into Israel and where was the media while that was happening? Why do they only report when Israel strikes back because they can't take it anymore? So these very people that are so anti-war are supporting the Palestinians that started the war in the first place-after agreeing to peace earlier this year?

So we were meeting for dinner with a group of 28 ladies from church and I made a comment about the protesters and I would have thought that someone would have chimed in, but silence met my words. My mother commented that I know a lot about what was going on in the Middle East because I had been studying it for a couple of years (not that I feel like I know it all, but I think I'm more educated than the average American-many of which could not even find Israel on a map) and someone said "I never discuss politics over dinner" which is a response I might expect from a group of co-workers, but my gosh! Christians should CARE about what is going on in Israel! But sadly, they don't or if they do, they don't speak out about it and that is why there were 300 Palestinian protesters and only about 10 in support of Israel across the road.

I had every intention of finishing dinner and going outside across the road and standing with the Pro-Israel crowd, but our wait was long and our waiter was slow and two hours later when I walked outside, the protest had commenced. I really wanted to set the example for my friends who were too weak to speak up for Israel.

The irony in all of this is that the Bible clearly tells us that the world will turn on Israel, but Christians are to stand by them. I felt embarrassed for "my people" that they didn't even know the Bible well enough to chime in on my "inappropriate dinner speech" and stand up for what the Bible clearly commands us to do.

When Christians in this country can't even follow God's command to defend and protect Israel, I fear that God will pour his wrath on us for our disobedience sooner than we think.

In the three years and a half years since Hurricane Katrina not a single American city has been destroyed or partially destroyed. There are more than 10,000 cities in the United States and because of George Bush every single one of them, except for New Orleans, is still largely intact. But since Katrina, there have been numerous hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, blizzards, fires and earthquakes and none of them has gotten out of hand and wiped out an entire city.

Psychotic, right wing scum department:

Ex-gitmo guard who saw 'torture' calls co-workers 'psychotic'Jeremy Gantz
Saturday January 10, 2009

As the Guantanamo Bay detention center reached its seventh birthday this week, a U.S. veteran said he witnessed cell beatings, forced head shavings and interrogation tactics--including sleep deprivation, floor shackles and loud music--while guarding detainees there.

"It's torture," Chris Arendt, who worked at Guantanamo when he was 19, told the BBC in this video. "It's a means of extracting information that I didn't even believe these people probably had. It's a means of making their lives more miserable."

Arendt, who joined the U.S. military when he was 17, testified at the Winter Soldier Hearings in Washington D.C. last March.

Wearing an Iraq Veterans Against the War sweatshirt, Arendt told the BBC that many people he worked with at the camp thought of their Guantanamo posting as "vacation."

"...This was the opportunity that they'd always wanted, to be violent and awful people...because they are genuinely psychotic. And for others, it's just a job," Arendt said.

For years, the Guantanamo prison has inspired global protests against alleged U.S. human rights violations. President George W. Bush has said he would like to close the camp, but his administration has been unable to find countries willing to accept many Guantanamo detainees. President-elect Barack Obama has said he will close the prison and prosecute many Guantanamo detainees in the United States.

On Thursday, the U.S. military admitted that 25 Guantanamo detainees -- or 10 percent of the prison's captives -- have starved themselves for weeks and are being fed through tubes in their noses. Human rights groups have called the practice of force-feeding hunger strikers "inhumane and unlawful."

Thirty detainees are currently on a hunger strike.

In testimony during the Winter Soldier Hearings last year, Arendt said: "There were methods [in place at Guantanamo] to make certain that we got around to torturing these people."

The U.S. Department of Defense has said its policy is "to treat detainees humanely."

White House reporters for The New York Times predict that the market collapse will force President-elect Barack Obama to abandon for now many of his campaign promises.

If his stimulus plan "doesn’t work out, he may very well be a one-term president,” said Jeff Zeleny, who covered Obama’s campaign. “It’s hard to imagine that he could be reelected if the economy’s in the exact same position four years from now.”

“A lot of the things he said on the campaign trail you can now dispense with,” said correspondent Peter Baker. “For the moment he has to focus on the economy.”

The reporters, gathered at a Sunday afternoon panel at the New York Times Center in New York City, largely concurred with the assessment that turning around the economy now trumps the issues Obama focused on from the stump until the market meltdown in August.

Baker suggested Obama would tackle smaller-scale issues related to his major agenda items as a kind of political “down payment” on his promises, for now would retreat from even some of his firmest pledges.

“You’re not going to see universal health care, I don’t think, this year,” Baker said. “You’re not going to see a cap on carbon emissions, as he has promised, probably, this year.”

And for all of his campaign trail talk about collective sacrifice, Baker observed, Obama has seemed reluctant to call for austerity in a challenging economic moment.

“He hasn’t asked anybody for sacrifice,” Baker said. “His whole economic package is about giving things to people.”

Sheryl Gay Stolberg, who has covered the Bush administration for the Times, suggested Obama would use his Inauguration, which takes place in nine days, as an opportunity to ask for patience from an uneasy public.

One of Obama’s principal political challenges, Stolberg said, is: “How will he try to lower expectations?”

The First GOPig:

Let's Be Honest About Abe, Shall We?

By KEN WARD

January 11, 2009 "Capitol Hill Blue" -- When Barack Obama takes the oath of office Jan. 20, he will place his left hand on Abraham Lincoln's Bible.

Much has been made of the Lincoln connection, with the first black man assuming the presidency in the 200th anniversary of Honest Abe's birthday. The historic alignment has occasioned renewed spasms of idolatrous odes to "The Great Emancipator."

But before we're all swept away in a paroxysm of national ecstasy, a few inconvenient truths must be noted about "Honest Abe."

First, Lincoln's Bible wasn't some well-worn family tome. It was purchased for his first inauguration by William Thomas Carroll, clerk of the Supreme Court.

Lincoln himself wasn't exactly a traditional Christian, or even religious. In his 20s, he wrote a "little Book on Infidelity," which questioned the inspiration of the Bible. Most research suggests that Lincoln believed in some form of providence, but wrestled with the idea of a personal God, despite frequently invoking deity in public utterances.

Such heterodoxy might have placed Lincoln ahead of his time in terms of secular philosophy, but his thinking on racial matters was truly mainstream for the period. During the Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858, for example, he declared:

"I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and black races. There is a physical difference between the two, which in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality.

"I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people. I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."

Four years later, in an Aug. 22, 1862, letter to New York Tribune Editor Horace Greeley, Lincoln wrote:

"If I could save the union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone, I would also do that. What I do about slavery and the colored race I do because I believe it helps to save the union."

When Lincoln panned those words, a draft of the Emancipation Proclamation lay in his desk drawer.

So who was "The Real Lincoln"? Loyola (Md.) College professor Thomas DiLorenzo, who titled a 2003 book with that question, says it's important that the public get the unvarnished picture.

"The average American -- who has not spent much time reading Lincoln's speeches, but has learned about him through the filter of 'Lincoln scholars' -- will be surprised or even shocked by some of his words and actions. He stated over and over again that he was opposed to political or social equality of the races; he was not an abolitionist, but denigrated them, and distanced himself from them; and his primary means of dealing with racial problems was to attempt to colonize all American blacks in Africa, Haiti, Central America -- anywhere but in the United States."

Much like Soviet-era schoolchildren who were indoctrinated to worship Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin, a corpus of 16,000 books on Lincoln conditions Americans to believe that the simple country lawyer from Illinois honorably defended his country and freed a race. His ethereal presence at Obama's inaugural ceremonies, and Obama's copious references to him, reinforce this national mythology.

Indeed, Lincoln was positively clairvoyant about the Leviathan State, and fought to usher it in.

"Lincoln thought of himself as the heir to the Hamiltonian political tradition, which sought a much more centralized governmental system, one that would plan economic development with corporate subsidies and the printing of money by the central government," DiLorenzo writes.

While waging the Civil War, Lincoln turned constitutional rights on their head, imprisoning thousands of Northern citizens without trial (including dozens of newspaper publishers and members of the Maryland legislature), confiscating citizens' firearms and even deporting a member of Congress, Clement Vallandigham, for opposing Lincoln's income tax proposal.

Obama and Lincoln certainly wouldn't see eye to eye on race today, but they could yet become soul mates on wielding power for the "greater good."

Out There In The Dark: Rightbloggers Go Hollywood!
Posted by Roy Edroso at 12:52 AM, January 12, 2009

As we get closer to the actual transition, rightbloggers are shifting gears. They're losing interest in the remaining pre-inaugural Obama business. We probably won't see anything like the Hillary Clinton Constitutional crisis again. Leon Panetta's CIA appointment drew some criticism on the grounds that he's not a spy, but also surprising rightblogger endorsements, as well as playful suggestions that Panetta may be more friendly toward black-bag operations than Obamans are supposed to be. Even the Blagojevich scandal that lately energized them has, with the Illinois governor's impeachment, lost its savor.

So rightblogger energy is being redirected to two main activities. One is laying groundwork for future anti-Democrat activities, with Al Franken's brazen election theft their first big project. The other is morale-building.

Since they have few subjects about which to be positive these days, rightbloggers are juicing the troops by reminding them who the real enemy is: Not Obama, not even Al Qaeda, but the People's Republic of Hollywood.

As the Minnesota Board of Canvassers prepared to certify Franken's victory over incumbent Senator Norm Coleman in a recount, and Coleman's people prepared a court challenge, the Wall Street Journal ran an editorial that stopped just short of declaring the Board's findings a fix. Rightbloggers happily went the extra distance, and also cut out the middleman, putting responsibility for their ruling directly onto Franken.

"Yep, Franken Stole the Election," said Ace of Spades. "Mean-Spirited Minnesotan Steals a Senate Seat," said Gay Patriot. "Al Franken steals the election," said Thoughts of a conservative mind. "Franken Steals Senate Election," said God & State.

"The Angry Clown Steals an Election," declared UrbanGrounds. "Thankfully for Franken, he's not black," he added, referring to Roland Burris' troubles entering the Senate. "Or [Harry] Reid would move mountains to prevent him from taking his ill-gotten seat." Also: "Between Franken, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Fran Drescher -- our US Congress has become a joke where celebrity and nepotism is more important than qualifications." (UrbanGrounds has in the past been kinder toward Schwarzenegger, and more aware that he does not serve in the U.S. Congress.)

Election expert Nate Silver forcefully disputed the Journal's version of events, but rightbloggers ignored this, moving on to more far-reaching analyses such as Say Anything's "How and why George Soros put Al Franken in the Senate" ("Norm Coleman's work uncovering the oil-for-food scandal got in the way of George Soros plan to have his own man running the world bank" -- wheels within wheels, people!) When Politico noticed that Franken had become the GOP's "top public enemy," this too became the subject of spin: "Al Franken, Already an Unpopular Democrat?" asked NewsBusters.

Wizbang's Cassy Fiano predicted with understandable confidence that liberals would not dispute the outcome, though they have "for the past eight years... screeched and moaned about how President Bush STOLE THE ELECTIONS!!!11!!!1!!!1!!!" Which, she helpfully added, "is a load of crap, as President Bush actually did win the election." Of course, if Franken's victory holds, we can count on rightbloggers to repeat their present claims that Franken stole the election, with or without 1's and exclamation points, any time his name is mentioned. By 2010, when many House seats will be up for grabs, Franken will be cited as proof of Democratic criminality. Maybe by then they'll have been doing it long and loudly enough that people will believe them.

Better news for rightbloggers emerged this week as Andrew Breitbart's Big Hollywood site rolled out. Conservatives have of course been shaking their fists at the godless liberals of filmdom since the days of Joe McCarthy, and rightbloggers have kept it up on the web, but Big Hollywood is a major aggregator -- one-stop shopping for culture-warriors looking for an angry fix at dawn or whenever else the fit is on them. It brings together Republican politicians, well-known rightbloggers like National Review's Kathryn J. Lopez and former Washington Post correspondent Ben Shapiro, and Hollywood apostates like Gary Graham for a smorgasbord of hatin' on Hollywood liberals.

As in other incarnations, these culture warriors sometimes claim they've actually already conquered Hollywood ("Top of the box office so far: the blatantly pro-war on terror Dark Knight"), but mostly gripe that the place is infested with traitors who will not let them do their nation-saving work.

Gainfully employed conservatives are enlisted to testify that they have been blacklisted. Filmmaker John Ziegler, despite his lengthy resume, nonetheless talked about "the hardships associated with being a 'conservative' in and around Hollywood" and being "on the firing line with the scars (and lost jobs) to prove it." James Hudnall, who has a development deal with Universal Pictures, said in Hollywood it's a "social crime to support your government or want to express patriotic thoughts in a public forum." Famous comedian Orson Bean claimed "my voice-over career dried up" because he supported Richard Nixon.

Bad enough Hollywood has limited these men to their current successes -- it also seeks to destroy the United States of America from within. Andrew Klavan denounced a film in which "hundreds of innocent people are destroyed, but we're not supposed to care. Just pay attention to the Nietzschean Super-Men fighting center screen, children, they're the only ones who matter... killing alone has significance, the good or evil of the killer and victim count for nothing..." Was he talking about Che? No, the Angelina Jolie potboiler Wanted. But don't think Klavan's patriotic rage is limited to popcorn-selling trifles: he also scorned Clint Eastwood's "silly Iwo Jima pictures" in which we are allegedly pushed to "root for the noble Japs over the corrupt Yanks." Elsewhere Endre Balogh attacked that "particularly vile, obscenely violent exercise in pointless nihilism," No Country for Old Men, and Breitbart reviewed Gone Baby Gone thus: "If [director] Ben [Affleck] is willing to rethink his love of Marxism and former neighbor, pal and history revisionist Howard Zinn, perhaps there is redemption for him."

The treasonous object doesn't have to be a movie to enrage Big Hollywood operatives: Debbie Schlussel was angered when Obama appeared in a Spider-Man comic book ("When Obama goes to share some baklava with his new friend Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or his buds in HAMAS, will we see Spidey cheering that on, too, and, again, tell America's comic book readers we're in 'capable hands'?"). And a film doesn't even have to exist, strictly speaking, in order for them to review it: National Review's Jonah Goldberg warned readers that the graphic novel on which the upcoming Watchmen film is based "places the blame for the omnipresent climate of fear on Reagan," when in Goldberg's reading "the existential angst and moral nihilism that serves as the spine of the book isn't a product of Reaganism, but of the left's ill-advised, ahistoric, and self-indulgent response to Reaganism."

Do you think Goldberg presumptuous for re-interpreting Alan Moore according to his own politics? Then get a load of Evan Sayet,,who claimed that Bruce Springsteen doesn't even understand his own songs. "While Springsteen the multimillionaire, rock star with the mansion in Beverly Hills may be a Liberal," said Sayet, "Bruce Springsteen the poet is one-hundred percent Republican." Attend Sayet's close reading of "Thunder Road":

Springsteen implores "Mary" to "Trade in these wings on some wheels." After all, wings may fly you quickly and safely over all of the bumps and potholes on the road... but they don't exist! Wheels -- cars -- on the other hand, do exist and are the only way to achieve the dream of finding something of value somewhere further down the road.
This proves to Sayet that Springsteen is no utopian, but "the epitome of the Conservative vision," even if Springsteen, in ignorance of his own work, supports traitors like Barack Obama.
A Hollywood where conservatives are simultaneously persecuted and triumphant, blacklisted and successful, and where artists are simultaneous conservative and liberal -- even regular readers of our column may find this unrealistic. But that's the wonderful thing about the arts, especially for people who really have no respect for them -- they're even more subject to interpretation than provisional ballots. With situations like the Franken election, rightbloggers have to craft new, flattering realities out of slurs and lies -- but movies are magic. If a couple with their popcorn can lose themselves in big-screen fantasy, why can't a horde of rightbloggers? As the inauguration looms, there are much less comforting places they could be than out there in the dark.

The Incompetent Right:

Already last spring, nearly two thirds of 109 professional historians polled by the 'History News Network' rated Bush the worst president in the nation's history, while another 35 percent said he was among the ten worst of the 42 who preceded him. And that was six months before the mid-September financial crisis that most economists agree will turn out to be the worst since the Great Depression of the 1930's!

The Ridiculous Right:

Lol...that VV piece is hilarious...while these poor, irrelevant morons are worrying about Franken and Hollywood, the rest of the country is trying to clean up their disasters and is in no mood for their petty whining.

Evan,
Off Topic Alert
I stumbled across a recording of this superb speech that you gave to the Heritage Foundation http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eaE98w1KZ-c&feature=PlayList&p=FF69220B4B8E6862&index=0&playnext=1
and I immediately thought of a book I read a couple of years ago: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Praise-Prejudice-Necessity-Preconceived-Ideas/dp/1594032025/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1231887814&sr=1-1

What you call discrimination, Dalrymple calls prejudice.

Cheers from England,

How The Far Right Elected Al Franken
January 12, 2009 · Filed Under 2008 Election, Bill O'Reilly, Fox News, Media, Rush Limbaugh
“I don’t know if we’ve ever had an opponent who is so disliked by Republicans as Al Franken,” said Minnesota Republican Party Chair Ron Carey. “It’s one thing to lose to an honorable opponent, but Al Franken is not considered an honorable opponent by Minnesota Republicans.”

If Mr. Carey and the rest of the Republicans would like to see how they’ve come to realize their - as well as Bill O’Reilly’s worst nightmare - they need only look in the mirror.

When I sat down in 2002 to speak with Franken about how seemingly adversarial conditions played a positive part in his life for my book, “Great Failures of the Extremely Successful… Mistakes, Adversity, Failure and Other Steppingstones to Success,” he had no idea that some of his greatest adversaries would help him to become a member of one of America’s most exclusive clubs…the U.S. Senate.

Air America was not yet a twinkle in the liberal’s eye, and despite his book, “Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot and other Observations” Franken was still more known for his comedy than he was for his political stance. His “Strange Bedfellows” bits on Comedy Central during the 96 election with then Republican Arianna Huffington were just a small hint of the direction Franken was heading.

The straw that broke the far right wing’s back came in the form of a 2003 law suit where the right-wing elevated the comic/author Franken from comic and author to Michael Moore danger level.

Penguin Books published Franken’s book “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right,” which included a cover photo of O’Reilly and a chapter accusing O’Reilly of lying. The book had sold fairly well, but would have run its course until Fox News, pushed by O’Reilly taking the bait, sued claiming infringement of its registered trademark phrase “Fair and Balanced.” A federal judge found the lawsuit to be “wholly without merit” and Fox then filed to dismiss it. With the media attention drawn by the legal folly, Franken’s sales and his public image went bonkers. He not only beat O’Reilly and made him appear thin-skinned and toothless, but his books and satirical approach taught the Democrats to fight back creatively. More importantly, he gave open-minded Republicans a bit of the truth behind far-right talk show zealots claims. Claims that had pretty much gone without scrutiny even by the so-called liberal mainstream media who were happy to book people like Limbaugh, O’Reilly and Ann Coulter to get their take on politics.

Rather than paint Franken as a deviant, it drew even more support and closed the divide between him and Coleman. The more venom the right threw at Franken, the more money came in to his campaign and the less he had to spend to get a camera or microphone in front of him. Franken had already had notoriety but the Republicans attempt to turn Franken into Fagin gave his race a national je ne sais quoi.

These people equating Israel with the Nazis have to be insane, and they are mostly from the Left. The Left acting like Nazis and calling for a new Hitler, and for the Jews to go to the ovens, wow! Hitler, someone even most of them would say they hate. The Left, many are anti-semitic Nazis, they should be so proud. The truth is coming out, it is getting harder to hide.

The MSM is insidious, they are instrumental in fanning these flames. We must keep trying to de-brainwash as many people as possible. As the brave Geert Wilders put it recently, "To begin with, there is already a Palestinian state, and that is Jordan. This land covers nearly eighty percent of the historic Palestine. Most residents of Jordan are Palestinians, for instance queen Rania."

Why doesn't Jordan take the poor Palestinians in the West Bank and Egypt control the nut jobs in Gaza?

They don't want them, that's why. They should be made to take them. That may be the only answer.

Hamas is what makes Gaza much worse than it could be. If they would give up the dream of destroying Israel and the Jews and stopped all missiles and suicide bombers, and all terrorist attacks, Israel would welcome doing business with them, and things would be peaceful. But they can't do this as long as they follow their Koran strictly.

There is no negotiating with a mad man, or with Jihadis who want to die to go get their 72 virgins.

I hope Israel doesn't quit too early. Hamas will never honor a ceasefire, and as soon as they start firing rockets again, Israel must too. If Israel is destroyed, terrorism in the rest of the world will just increase, it will never stop, as long as there are Radical Muslims, or rather, Muslim Fundamentalists; who are appeased, defended, and kissed up to.

Zionism is an Incurable Disease of the Mind

To describe the colonial immigration to Palestine of a European people with no proven historical link to the ancient Israelites – and whose great, great recorded ancestors have never set foot there – as some kind of a “return” to that land is indicative of a perverted misunderstanding and misapplication of the verb to “return” and can only be a result of a disease of the mind. That is such a mindless comment that makes no sense and is not even true. You sound like a stupid little piggish bully whose education consists of talk radio and FOX. No wonder why a brainless butthead like you admires Sayet, you both lack any critical thinking skills as well as intelligence.
