Quick Thoughts About Tonight (Iowa)

Barack Obama looks unstoppable. Now, looks can be deceiving, and I am far from ruling out Hillary Rodham Clinton, after all, the Clintons are vicious human beings with very powerful connections and, as Bill Bennett said on CNN, Obama "better watch his back and his knees."

Remember, these are people who had no problem trying to "take care" of the Monica Lewinsky scandal by floating the rumor that she was a criminal stalker. This poor, dazed and confused little fat girl, so bamboozled by one of history's most notorious "charmers" into believing that not only was he going to leave his wife for her if she'd just let him sodomize her with an inanimate object, but that he was secretly signaling his love for her with his choice of wardrobe, would have faced criminal prosecution as a stalker of the President of the United States had the Democrats been able to get away with it.

These are people who would pilfer top secret, vital 9/11 documents and put America at risk just to save the "legacy" of Slick Willy. They are going to go after Barack Hussein Obama and nothing will stop them.

And, I suspect, Barack Hussein Obama has some things we haven't yet found out about him. Why? Because we haven't found out ANYTHING about him. He has no track record -- having thus far served one-third of one term in the Senate where he is one of a hundred faces hiding in the crowd.

In about a year on the campaign trail he has said nothing. "Hope" and "Change" and "my wife still shops at Target" aren't policy positions or any hint of what he's done or hopes to do.

But Hillary has some deep, deep problems. The notion of her being "inevitable" obviously is long gone. Her claim to "experience" is laughable, she's probably the only women in the Clinton years who DIDN'T gain "experience" during Slick Willy's run. The notion that she was in a marriage -- one that was often estranged -- to a former president isn't exactly a great deal of experience.

Since Obama isn't saying anything he has nothing to attack, and any hope of winning people with that boring, policy stuff threatens to lose the reasonable people if she panders to the left, and lose the loonies who run the party if she offers reasonable policy in its stead.

Any grown-up policy Hillary might offer is easily dismissed -- as is all grown-up talk -- as "fear-mongering" and only by smiling and hopings and hoping and smiling can the economy be improved, the Islamic fascists slowed and everyone will get free healthcare including all of the illegal aliens who flood our shores.

Barack's speech was brilliant tonight. Of course, as always, he said nothing. But he talked in terms not of an a victory handed to him by a few thousand leftists in the tiny state of Iowa, but as if he was Martin Luther King and he'd just defeated Jim Crow.

The big losers in the Democrat Party are the professional race profiteers like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. How do these people continue to sell the lie of American racism when Iowa -- IOWA -- 98 percent white (or something darn close) handily handed their votes to the black guy rather than the white chick and the trial lawyer with the pretty hair?

(It's been a bad year in general for the leftist hate-mongers, what with their Duke case exposing the anti-white bigotry of the leftists, Jena turning out to have had nothing whatsoever to do with race -- just a couple of career criminals who brutally beat a white kid, leaving the race profiteers nothing but a silly joke by an elderly radio DJ in which he used the black vernacular to tease some college basketball players as the only "proof" of racism they and their staffs could dig up in all of 2007.)

So, who will it be for the leftists? I can't imagine Hillary with her machine and her viciousness not finding SOMETHING to destroy her opponent but, with seventy percent of the voters in Iowa voting against her, it's hard to see how she can win legitimately. When Edwards pulls out of the race virtually ALL of her, I mean his, votes will go to Barack Hussein Obama and that turns the race into a runaway.

On the Republican side, the biggest winner may be Rudolph Giuliani. His unusual (and I believe wrong) strategy of forfeiting the early states to focus on the bigger states a couple of weeks down the line required no clear cut winner to emerge before he enters the fray for real. With Huckabee a flash in the pan in the state that has given us such winners as Tom Harkin and Dick Gephardt has now given us Huckabee. But Huckabee is trailing big time in the next major contest, where Mitt Romney and John McCain are the real contenders.

South Carolina could see any number of the Republicans win in just about any order, meaning that Giuliani, if he can win Florida, becomes in an instant one of, if not the, top delegate holder going into other contests flush with the money and organization not squandered in the other efforts. We'll see.

The Republican side is much to muddled to even hint at the outcome but here's what I know, there is not a Republican running who isn't more knowledgeable, experienced and mature than Ms. Hillary, B. Hussein and Mr. Hair COMBINED.

Hahaaha...throw a dart at this psycho's babble and you come up with gems like this:

This idiot can't not embarass himself...one minute Obama wins with the votes of a few thousand leftists; the next moment the non-racist sentiments of a few thousand leftists means there is no racism left in America...No shit, mon, is it possible to be that stupid without working at it? The real problem is that the weirdo is so dishonest, he'll say anything...and this is the kind of crap he ends up putting on the page without even realizing how much he contradicts himself. Wow!!

Nope, the fact that the biggest examples of "racism" that hatemongers could find in all of 2007 were to fake cases (Duke University and the lies and cover-ups of the black thug's criminal history) and a bad joke by a leftist comedian using the black vernacular.

Add to that the victory of B. Hussein Obama in Iowa and it's been a bad run for the leftist hate-mongers peddling their lies about evil, horrible America.

Evan, either you are having an affair with elitegal, or she is stalking you. She has the obdurate conscience of an embittered old sinner, despite the embarrassing and certain indicators of callow youth--name-calling.

As usual, you called it accurately. We'll see how Michelle Obama takes the gloves off to keep her husband mud-free. She seems ferocious and not afraid of Hillary.
Obama gave a great speech, didn't he? I know there was no real substance, but iat this point in our history, having been Hollywooded for so long, can we really expect much more?

Evan the dead, parrot stuffed with a looping tape recording sez: And, I suspect, Barack Hussein Obama has some things we haven't yet found out about him. Why?

Because he's a fuggin liberal who will embrace evil over good every, single gOddam time. That's Barack HUSSEIN (in case anyone missed the repetitive--hallmark of the dead parrot, btw--passive-aggressive, racist slur) Obama.

I wouldn't be so quick to discount Obama. I watched a few of his debates w/Alan Keyes for the Illinois Senate. He is an exceptionally good and intelligent debator.

And the Democratic Party turnout in Iowa was phenomenal. Almost double the enthusiasm shown from last year. RNC turnout was stronger as well, but only about 50% stronger.

Evan, et al (myself included), are dying for Hillary to go negative on Obama. If she does, members of the DNC will stay home in droves. But as of this moment, the DNC must be feeling pretty good about its' prospects. It'll be interesting to see what Hillary does in the next few days.

Obama was a coke-head user (probably dealer) in his youth. Hillary's (now retired) NH campaign manager hinted at it last (?) week. Lets see if she brings him back on-board.

Romney's got no problem running attack ads. After all, he's running like he's the only horse in this race.

...how about a confession from Obama's "Dreams of my Father"...

"Junkie. Pothead. That's where I'd been headed: the final, fatal role of the young would-be black man. . . . I got high [to] push questions of who I was out of my mind."

No "experimentation"... no "I didn't inhale". Junkie. Pothead.

Anonymous said...

Notice how he ascribes such 'youthful indiscretions' to the 'pursuit of black-ness'.

It's almost as if he's saying that being a junkie/pothead is a pre-requisite for admission into the cult of the "authentically black".

Anonymous said...

Poor Barrack. I wonder if he ever succeeded in becoming "black". Somehow, I think he "beat it".

Jane said...

Obama was a coke-head user (probably dealer) in his youth.

omg, I love how you don't know how to use the slang you want to use, and then assume that anyone who uses cocaine is probably also a dealer. I've never tried coke, but I know plenty of people who have (they tend to attend law school), and none of them are dealers. Or was he a dealer because he's black?

Also, I love how Evan doesn't use "sodomize" correctly. Maybe he doesn't know what sodomy is, exactly? Maybe the sexual confusion is the root of the problem here.

Anonymous said...

Cocaine can be a pretty expensive habit. Just how does someone who calls himself a "junkie" support such an expensive habit? Do you think his "mommy" gave him the money to buy coke?

I said "probably" dealer. Maybe he was a thief. Maybe he was mugger. But at that early stage in his life, I don't think he was one of your "investment banker/lawyer" friends.

Sounds like a "legitimate" question for Obama. I sincerely doubt it will ever get seriously asked...

Where did you get the money to support your expensive drug habit?

Jane said...

Once again, you have no idea what you're talking about.

I don't know about Obama's particular situation, but (1) not everyone who uses coke uses it all the time to the point of bankruptcy, and (2) it's not THAT expensive. Someone who has student loans like me could easily afford a dabbling habit, which I know because I know many people who do just that. To have a fun night with coke, it costs about as much as getting really drunk at a New York bar.

Plus, being a drug dealer requires a lot more startup capital than being an intermittent user. And being a coke dealer, as opposed to a pot dealer, for example, requires more than just money. Unless you're suggesting that Obama here had some guns and a couple of goons to go with, I don't see how you can make the case that there is any probability he was a drug dealer.

Anonymous said...

Obama claims to have been raised by his grandparents in a "middle class" environment. When trying to explain himself to kids in NH, he down-plays his drug use and labels it "experimentation"... but he's also confessed to being a junkie AND a pothead.

And of course, he also says that he was lazy and un-motivated (I doubt he had a job). So. Where did Obama's junkie-money come from?

Anonymous said...

Good old Dancing Monkey. So predictable. Party before country, always and forever.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, but not even a WHITE high school student is going to be eligible for a "student loan".

I knew a few heavy drug users in high school. And the only means they had of supporting their habits, was to deal.

Jane said...

I'm pretty sure that Obama said he did coke when he was at Columbia, not in high school.

Being a pothead is not very expensive at all. I don't know what he meant by junkie, but I think he's said he was never addicted to cocaine.

And of course, he also says that he was lazy and un-motivated (I doubt he had a job). So. Where did Obama's junkie-money come from?

Um, do you really believe that a man who became editor in chief of the Harvard Law Review was ever really "lazy and unmotivated"? Have you heard of this thing called "false modesty"?

Jane said...

Plus, read: "Junkie. Pothead. That's where I'd been headed..."

Headed. Not already there.

Jane said...

No, i'm sorry, you're right, he said he did it in high school. But here's what he said:

"Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though,"

When you could afford it.

Doesn't sound like a drug dealer to me.

Anonymous said...

That depends... crack or powder?

In the mid-1980s, powdered cocaine was typically sold by the half-gram or gram for $50 to $100, while crack was sold as small rocks that cost as little as $5 to $10. Crack became popular in poor, largely minority urban areas, and it developed an image as a drug used mostly by violent, inner-city youths

Powder costs money... crack is much more "addictive"... I don't think that Obama used the word "junkie" for NO reason.

Anonymous said...

Anybody think these questions should be "off limits"?

Jane said...

Do you know how many lines are 1/2 gram of cocaine? It's not like that's 1 line.

He said he did blow, not crack, when he could afford it. He said he was headed for "junkie," not there yet. Your whole "obama was a dealer" theory is very, very unlikely.

Anonymous said...

...or does Obama get a "pass" because he was confused and struggling to confront his race?

...and is giving him such a pass merely patronizing him... and even MORE insulting.

Anonymous said...

Unlikely? Maybe. Let's ask him.

Jane said...

I'm not giving him a pass. I think these questions are not off limits, but to me, the fact that he did coke, and that he admitted it publicly -- it makes me more likely to vote for him, not less, and I'm not an Obama supporter, despite my affinity for his wife.

Why more likely? Here's someone who, not like squeaky clean Romeny, has tried these drugs, and knows that if you try these drugs, even if you do them regularly, that doesn't make you a raging menace to society who will never add up to anything. It's the same as being well-traveled is an attractive quality in a person, because the person knows that those brown people you see on TV, they're just like us in many ways, because he or she has been there and seen their lives and their cultures and everything.

And he said it, instead of trying to deny that he has any faults or mistakes or any blemishes on his record. I like that.

Anonymous said...

I'll reserve judgement. I say ask him to fess up and tell us the COMPLETE extent of his drug use and how he financed it.

And then we send a few reporters out to talk to his high school buddies.

If he checks out... fine. If not, then I don't think his "openness" was much more than a political move... much like Kerry's Vietnam home movies.

Of course "Hillary" has already sent her lawyers out and collected those affadavits....

Anonymous said...

If it turns out that he DID sell drugs to finance his own personal use, would THAT fact make you more or less likely to vote for Obama?

I personally don't see it as a much more "serious" offense. But then, I'm not a candidate for the highest office in the land... one with the power to temporarily "suspend" the writ of habeas corpus (in cases of rebellion or invasion).

Jane said...

My gut tells me that dealing drugs is much more involvement and a much more serious crime. But it depends, did he sell a joint once to one friend, or did he have a long-term systematized operation? It's all on a spectrum.

Is doing blow when you could afford it in high school any worse than drunk driving (for which both Bush and Cheney have been arrested)? I don't think so.

But I'll agree that I think it can be investigated if anyone really wants to. I see no reason to oppose that kind of investigation.

I personally think you suspect him of being a drug dealer more than Chimpy because he's black.

Anonymous said...

...think what you like. Only I can "know" the answer to that question, and you wouldn't believe me if I told you, unless of course, it agreed with your current thought.

Anonymous said...

Is doing blow when you could afford it in high school any worse than drunk driving.

Trying to fictionalize an equivalency between two completely different things, I see. As if either action is somehow "bad" and some "debt" is thereby owed to society which must be punished. Where does one get these strange notions? How "human" of you.

Anonymous said...

Now is doing "blow" and driving and worse than doing "alcohol" and driving?

How about is doing "alcohol" any worse than doing "blow".

How incapacitated?

Anonymous said...

I love the way "lawyers" frame their questions... not always with the interest of "clarifying" a situation.

Anonymous said...

Did Obama ever drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol? Maybe we should ask him. Has Obama ever been arrested on charges of drunk driving? Let's ask.

Jane said...

Well, okay. In that case, alcohol, for example, is more addictive than cocaine.

so maybe doing alcohol is worse.

Anonymous said...

I seem to recall a whole boat-load of Bush-cocaine stories breaking out two or three days before the 2000 election...

So now abusing over the counter legal drugs is worse than abusing illegal ones? ... on the premise that "addictiveness" should be the sole criteria upon which one should base such a judgement?

Dora, dora, dora...

Jane said...

I was saying it was an example of a way to rank them.

As for Bush and illegal drugs, he has admitted to using them. So i don't know what you're upset about.

In a segment of the tapes made available to CNN by ABC News, the president appears to admit to trying marijuana.

Bush says he "wouldn't answer the marijuana question ... 'cause I don't want some little kid doing what I tried."

"But you gotta understand, I want to be president, I want to lead. I want to set -- Do you want your little kid to say, 'Hey daddy, President Bush tried marijuana, I think I will?' " he said.

In a segment of the tapes played on ABC's "Good Morning America," Bush says the same holds true for questions about cocaine use, which have dogged him since the 2000 election.

"The cocaine thing, let me tell you my strategy on that," Bush said on the tape. "Rather than saying no ... I think it's time for someone to draw the line and look people in the eye and say, you know, 'I'm not going to participate in ugly rumors about me and blame my opponent,' and hold the line. Stand up for a system that will not allow this kind of crap to go on."

Bush also corrected Wead when he said that an evangelical leader had said Bush promised not to hire gay men and lesbians.

"No, what I said was I wouldn't fire gays," he said on the tapes. "I'm not going to discriminate against people."

[CNN]

Jane said...

So now abusing over the counter legal drugs is worse than abusing illegal ones?

Another measure could be the violence it provokes in people. Crack and alcohol make people very violent. Heroin and marijuana do not.

Or how mind-altering they are. In that case, LSD and mescaline are the worst, followed by the opiate group (heroin, oxycontin, opium) while speed, nicotine and caffeine are the least bad.

I think speed is considered to be the most addictive, followed by nicotine, crack and a bunch of pharmaceuticals. Then it's the opiates, then alcohol, then cocaine, then the least addictive are the hallucinagens and marjiuana.

All things we should consider should we ever decide to have a sensible drug policy.

Anonymous said...

Dumass, Farmer John, sez: So now abusing over the counter legal drugs is worse than abusing illegal ones? ..

A lot of people are killed by drunk drivers. Obama was a kid when he did did some drugs. He wasn't some drunk into his forties like GW (who was also a coke head), the dry drunk you support, idiot. You have absolutely no powers of discrimination.

Anonymous said...

Actually meth-amphetamine, crack and cocaine are highly addictive drugs, with crack being almost instantly addictive, followed closely behind by coke and meth-amphetamine--not to be confused with speed, which is also addictive but not as quickly as the others. As far as being mind altering, they are also that because the addiction causes personality changes, often violent ones. While LSD and mescaline are mind altering, any violence that occurs (which is not often) is usually self-directed--whereas with crack and the others, (and also alcohol) violence is usually perpetrated upon others.

Nevertheless, what Obama did in high school is hardly relevant now since he did not continue with pot or blow into adulthood.

Jane said...

Well, Mike, let's agree to disagree on what is most addictive. As far as I understand it, methamphetamine has the lowest recovery rate of all the drugs.

I was just proposing criteria for how to think about drugs.

In any case, I don't do uppers.

Evan Sayet said...

I absolutely do not rule Obama out. Quite the opposite. Other than the viciousness of the Clinton clan's famous viciousness, I -- on this day after the caucuses -- think Obama looks unstoppable.

He's PERFECT for the leftists. He's tall, he's handsome, he says nothing. He offers lots of free presents but, like the children that they are, the Democrats never ask for answers.

Notice he talks about surrendering Iraq to the terrorists but never a word about what happens to the millions of people when the Taliban and al Qaeda take over.

It's fast, it's easy, it FEELS good to surrender to the terrorists and, because under their blueprint for utopia "all the people (are) living for today" they don't demand any explanation as to how we're going to prevent the newly empowered terrorists from attacking us.

He talks about "feelings" ("Hope" "Fear") because that's what Democrats respond to. It was famously said that "if you're not a Liberal when you're young you have no heart. If you're still a Liberal when you're older you have no brain." That was said to have been Winston Churchill. And, so the Democrats appeal to the heart but offer nothing for the head (no pun intended).

There have been other times in history when the question could be spun into "hope" versus "fear." Sadly for the world, Neville Chamberlain (to cheers along the line received by Obama) opted to "hope" that Hitler was really a nice guy rather than to fear the Third Reich and do something about it.

Evan Sayet said...

Telling is that rather than take on the issues raised -- leftist racism and race profiteering, the sexual abuse of a confused 21-year-old fat chick in his employ, etc. the leftist finds something meaningless (not using the proper druggies' vernacular in making a point) or the right use of the word "sodomy" to describe the mind rape of a sad child by a fifty-year-old already accused of rape and molestation by two OTHER women.

This trick is so well-known it actually has a name. It is the fallacy called a "red herring." Throw people (actually just themselves) off the right path by talking about something wholly unimportant.

And, as is usually the case, not only is her argument a red herring...it's also wrong:

American Heritage Dictionary

sod·om·y (sŏd'ə-mē) Pronunciation Key

n. Any of various forms of sexual intercourse held to be unnatural or abnormal...

Jane said...

He's PERFECT for the leftists. He's tall, he's handsome, he says nothing. He offers lots of free presents

Wait a second, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee are also into a lot of free presents, like universal healthcare. Even Duncan Hunter is all about the free presents - bringing back manufacturing jobs to America.

And when they're not offering free presents, the Republican candidates offer the opportunity to be violent towards somebody. We will stay in iraq and beat up those brown people for a hundred years, McCain says. We will deport all the illegal immigrants, Tancredo says. We will double Guantanamo, Romney says. We will bomb those other brown people in Iran, Giuliani says. Like little schoolyard bullies.

but, like the children that they are, the Democrats never ask for answers.

Ah! This coming from the party that says that anyone, no matter how decorated a war hero, who wants to know what the executive branch is doing is an un-American, terrorist-loving traitor. Talk about never asking for answers -- Repubs go even further: they demonize anyone who asks for any answers.

Notice he talks about surrendering Iraq to the terrorists

Wait a second, I thought we were surrendering Iraq to the flowering middle eastern democracy that is standing up as we stand down.

but never a word about what happens to the millions of people when the Taliban and al Qaeda take over.

The Taliban? Why, you've lost your mind. There is no Taliban in Iraq. The Taliban are Sunnis, the religious majority in Iraq is Shia. Very sloppy.

Jane said...

Wow, Sayet, way to lop off the end of that defintion:

And what, pray tell, is sexual intercourse?

good god, sayet, you're the sloppiest wannabe commentator out there.

First, she was 22 when the affair began, not 21. A full-grown adult, well within the age of consent, voting and drinking.

Second, as far as I understand it, it was all consensual, so I don't know why it was "sexual abuse" or "mind rape," whatever the hell that means.

Third, Clinton is 27 years older than Monica. Did you know that current Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson is 24 years older than his wife? did he sexually abuse his wife and mentally rape her too?

Wow, you really are a 'tard.

Pat Robertson: God told me who will win ‘08 election.
Each year, Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson “goes off alone with the Lord and then comes back to share with us what the Lord has shown him about the coming year.” This year, according to Robertson, God told him what will happen in the ‘08 election:

On Wednesday, Robertson, 77, implied that God informed him who will be elected president in November.

“He told me some things about the election, but I’m not going to say, because some old man on “60 Minutes” would make fun of me, so I’m not going to tell you who the winner’s going to be,” Robertson said, in apparent reference to CBS humorist Andy Rooney, who turns 89 on Jan. 14.

In 2004, Robertson claimed that the Lord told him it would “be like a blowout” re-election for President Bush. Bush, however, received just 51 percent of the vote that November. In 2006, he incorrectly predicted that “the outcome of the war and the success of the economy will leave the Republicans in charge.”

UPDATE: Robertson also said that this year, God told him China will become a Christian nation: “God’s going to give us China. And China will be the largest Christian nation on the face of the earth. They’re going to come to Jesus.”

When Animals Attack:

Choosing a president should be "based not on a leap of faith but on the kind of changes we've already produced," Clinton said the day after she came in third in the Iowa caucuses.

"Anyone we nominate will be thrown into that blazing inferno of a general election.

"I've been through the fires, and it makes it far less likely they are going to be able to do to me what they intend to do to whomever we nominate."

To cheers, Clinton added, "Of all the people running for president, I've been the most vetted, the most investigated, and, my goodness, the most innocent, as it turns out."

But those cheers turned to boos at the 100 Club party fund-raiser in Milford, NH, when her attacks on Obama backfired.

When Clinton took several shots at Obama's "hope" message, she twice earned the Bronx cheers from his raucous supporters emboldened by their stunning Iowa victory.

First, when Clinton issued a standard refrain from her Iowa stump speech: "Some people think you make change by hoping for it," the crowd jeered.

Later, when she asked, "Who will be the best president on day one?" the audience provided an unexpected answer, chanting, "O-bam-a, O-bam-a."

"I'll be a president who finally makes health care affordable and available to every single American, the same way I expanded health care in Illinois, by bringing Democrats and Republicans together to get the job done," the Chicago Democrat, Barrak Obama said Thursday.

But Illinois doesn't have universal health care.

In fact, Obama's comment comes as Illinois is embroiled in a full-scale political fight over whether to expand coverage. Gov. Rod Blagojevich last year proposed such a plan only to see it go nowhere.

Some Quick Thoughts About GOP Leadership:
A quick note on methodology. Since a complete catalog of administration officials who've been accused of some form of corruption or abuse of power would be endless, we tried to maintain a high standard for inclusion. Most of those below were the subjects of criminal probes, but we also included officials who were credibly accused of acts that, if not criminal, were a corruption of office (like the U.S. attorney scandal). And even then, such officials were only included if their accusers had them dead to rights (which is why Karl Rove didn't make the cut). We also limited ourselves to officials who were either political appointees or whose actions were so political that they were effectively political appointees (like John Tanner).

Enjoy:

Indicted / Convicted/ Pled Guilty

* Eric G. Andell - deputy undersecretary in charge of newly created Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (previously senior adviser to Secretary of Education Rod Paige) - pleaded guilty to one count of conflict of interest for using government travel for personal causes and was sentenced to one year of probation, 100 hours of community service, and fined $5,000.

* Claude Allen - Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy- resigned, pled guilty to shoplifting from Target stores.

* Lester Crawford - Commissioner, FDA - resigned in late September 2005 after only two months on the job. On October 17th, he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts, making a false writing and conflict of interest. On February 27, 2007, Crawford was sentenced to to three years of probation and was fined $90,000.

* Brian Doyle - Deputy Press Secretary, Department of Homeland Security - Resigned in wake of child sex scandal. Doyle was arrested on April 4th, 2006 and pleaded no contest on September 19, 2006 to seven counts of use of a computer to seduce a child and sixteen counts of transmitting harmful material to a minor. On November 17th, 2006 Brian Doyle was sentenced to five years in state prison and ten years of probation. He will also need to register as a sex offender.

* Steven Griles - Deputy Secretary at the Interior Department - is the highest-ranked administration official yet convicted in the Jack Abramoff scandal. In March 2007, Griles pleaded guilty to lying about his role in the Jack Abramoff scandal. Sentenced to 10 months incarceration.

* John T. Korsmo – Chairman of the Federal Housing Finance Board from 2002 to 2004 – pleaded guilty in 2005 to lying to the Senate and an inspector general. He swore he had no idea how a list of presidents for FHFB-regulated banks were invited to a fundraiser for his friend's congressional campaign. On the invites, Korsmo was listed as the "Special Guest." Got 18 months of probation and a $5,000 fine.

* Scooter Libby - Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff - resigned after being indicted for lying to a grand jury and investigators in connection with the investigation stemming from the leak of Valerie Wilson’s covert CIA operative's identity. Convicted on four of five counts, making him the highest-ranking White House official to be convicted of a felony since the Iran-contra scandal. Sentenced to thirty months imprisonment and a fine of $250,000. On July 2nd, after a judge decided that Libby would remain in prison during the appeals process, President Bush commuted Libby's sentence by removing the thirty months in prison.

* David Safavian - former head of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy at the Office of Management and Budget - convicted of lying to ethics officials and Senate investigators about his ties to lobbyist Jack Abramoff. On October 27, 2006, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He is currently appealing the ruling.

* Robert Stein - former comptroller and funding officer for the now disbanded Coalition Provisional Authority, Southern Central Region in Al-Hillah, Iraq - pleaded guilty to conspiracy, bribery, conspiracy to commit money laundering, possession of a machine gun, and being a felon in possession of a fire arm. On January 30, 2007 Stein was sentenced to nine years in prison and ordered to forfeit $3.6 million.

* Roger Stillwell - desk officer, Interior Department - pleaded guilty to failing to report Redskins tickets and free dinners from Jack Abramoff.

Resigned Due to Investigation, Pending Investigation or Allegations of Impropriety

* Philip Cooney - chief of staff, White House Council on Environmental Quality - a former oil industry lawyer with no scientific expertise, Cooney resigned after it was revealed he had watered down reports on global warming.

* George Deutsch - press aide, NASA - resigned amid allegations he prevented the agency's top climate scientist from speaking publicly about global warming.

* Michael Elston - chief of staff to Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty - announced his resignation on June 15, 2007. Despite allegations that he’d threatened at least four of the eight fired US Attorneys, McNulty said Elston had served the Justice Department "with distinction for nearly eight years."

* Kyle Dustin “Dusty” Foggo - appointed executive director of the CIA, the agency’s third-highest post, in October 2004 - resigned and was ultimately indicted on bribery charges related to the Duke Cunningham scandal.

* Alberto Gonzales - former Attorney General - resigned without explanation amidst investigations of the firings of U.S. Attorneys, the politicization of the Justice Department, warrantless surveillance, and the torture and mistreatment of detainees.

* Monica Goodling - former Justice Department liaison to the White House and senior counsel to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales - resigned on April 7, 2007 amidst the investigation of the firings of U.S. Attorneys.

* Michelle Larson Korsmo - deputy chief of staff, Department of Labor - Helped her husband (see John Korsmo, above) with his donor scam. Quietly left her Labor plum job in February 2004, about two weeks before news broke that she and her husband were the targets of a criminal probe.

* Howard "Cookie" Krongard - former State Department inspector general -- accused of not properly investigating State Department contractor fraud in Iraq and Afghanistan; of retaliating against whistleblowers in his own office; and of not telling the truth about his knowledge of his brother's ties with Blackwater, a State Department contractor. Faced with a possible perjury investigation, Howard Krongard resigned on December 7, 2007.

* Julie Macdonald - former deputy assistant secretary for fish, wildlife and parks at the Interior Department - resigned in May 2007 after an "inspector general's report found she had improperly leaked information to private organizations, bullied staff scientists and broken federal rules." The Department of the Interior is investigating many of her decisions regarding endangered species; so far seven have been overturned.

* Paul McNulty - Deputy Attorney General for the Department of Justice – resigned, after questions about his involvement in the U.S. attorney firings and his testimony to Congress about the firings.

* Richard Perle - Chairman, Defense Policy Board - resigned from Pentagon advisory panel amid conflict-of-interest charges.

* Susan Ralston - assistant, White House - resigned amidst revelations that she had accepted thousands of dollars in gifts from Abramoff without compensating him, counter to White House ethics rules.

* Janet Rehnquist - inspector general, Department of Health and Human Services - resigned on June 1, 2003 in the face of an investigation into her alleged efforts to block a politically dangerous probe on behalf of the Bush family.

* James Roche - secretary, U.S. Air Force - resigned in the wake of the Boeing tanker lease scandal, after it was revealed he had rather crudely pushed for Boeing to win a $23 billion contract.

* Kyle Sampson -former chief of staff for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales - resigned amidst the investigation of the firings of U.S. Attorneys.

* Joseph Schmitz - Inspector General, Defense - Resigned amid charges he personally intervened to protect top political appointees.

* Bradley Schlozman - resigned from his third and final post with the Justice Department after accusations of actively politicizing the department. He's currently under investigation by the Department's inspector general.

* Thomas Scully - Administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services - shortly after Scully resigned in 2003, an investigation by the Department of Health and Human Services inspector general found that Scully had pressured the agency's actuary to underestimate the full cost of the Medicare reform bill by approximately $100 billion until after Congress passed the bill into law. Scully was also hit with conflict of interest charges by the U.S. attorney's office for billing CMS for expenses incurred during a job search while he still headed the agency. He settled those charges by paying $9,782.

* David Smith - deputy assistant secretary for fish, wildlife, and parks, Interior Department - resigned on July 21, 2006 after shooting a buffalo and accepting its skeletal remains and meat as an illegal gratuity. He eventually paid over $3,000 for the dead buffalo, but only after the internal inquiry had commenced. The Department of Interior inspector general also noted in a May 16, 2006 report that Smith's involvement in the designation of Houston as a port of entry for imported wildlife in order to benefit a friend was inappropriate.

* John Tanner - Voting Rights Section Chief, Justice Department - resigned in December of 2007 and moved to the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices. Already under suspicion for aiding efforts to politicize the voting section, the bumbling proponent of voter identification laws angered lawmakers with his comments that such laws actually discriminate against white voters because "minorities die first". Even more impressive was his apology for the comment. The DoJ's Office of Professional Responsibility is currently investigating his travel habits and those of his deputy.

* Sara Taylor - Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Political Affairs at the White House, where she was Karl Rove´s top aide - resigned amidst the U.S. attorneys investigation and other probes of Rove´s alleged politicization of the government.

* Ken Tomlinson - Board Chairman, Corporation for Public Broadcasting; member, Broadcasting Board of Governors - resigned at the release of an inspector general report concluding he had broken laws in spending CPB money to hire politically connected consultants to search for "bias" without consulting the board. At BBG, a separate investigation found he was running a "horse racing operation" out of his office, and continuing to hire politically-wired individuals to do "consulting" work for him. After being nominated and serving another term, he finally stepped down from that spot earlier this year.

* Carl Truscott - Director, Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Bureau - resigned. A report by the Justice Department's inspector general found that Truscott wasted tens of thousands of dollars on luxuries, wasted millions on whimsical management decisions and violated ethics rules by ordering employees to help his nephew with a high school video project.

* Paul Wolfowitz - World Bank President - resigned in May 2007 after a committee report found that he broke ethics rules by giving his girlfriend a substantial raise.

Nomination Failed Due to Scandal

* Linda Chavez - nominated, Secretary of Labor - withdrew her nomination in January 2001 amidst revelations that an illegal immigrant lived in her home and worked for her in the early 1990s. Chavez blamed what she said were the "search-and-destroy" politics of Washington.

* Timothy Flanigan - nominated, Deputy Attorney General (also Alberto Gonzales’ top deputy at the White House) - withdrew his nomination in October 2005 amidst revelations that he'd worked closely with lobbyist Jack Abramoff when he was General Counsel for Corporate and International Law at Tyco, which was a client of Abramoff's.

* Bernard Kerik - nominated, Secretary, Department of Homeland Security - withdrew his nomination amidst a host of corruption allegations. Eventually pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor relating to improper gifts totaling tens of thousands of dollars while he was a New York City official in the late 1990's. Subsequently, on November 8, 2007, Kerik was indicted on sixteen counts for bribery, tax fraud, and false statements with a maximum sentence of 142 years and more than $5 million in fines. Kerik has pleaded not guilty. For a rundown of Kerik's myriad indiscretions, check out TPM's Ultimate Kerik Scandal List!.

* William Mercer - the former associate deputy attorney general and US Attorney for Montana - withdrew his nomination to be the permanent number three official at the Department of Justice on June 22, 2007 due to his role in the U.S. attorney firings.

* Hans von Spakovsky - Commissioner, FEC - nomination to another term after his recess appointment failed due to allegations that he'd worked at the Justice Department to suppress minority voter turnout.

Under Investigation But Still in Office

* Stuart Bowen - Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR) - was once admired for his successes while investigating allegations of waste and fraud in Iraq, but now employee allegations have prompted four government investigations into the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR).

* Lurita Doan - Administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration - still in office, despite investigations by both the Office of Special Counsel and the House oversight committee that found that Doan had "crossed the line" by suggesting that the GSA use its resources to help Republicans get elected.

* Alfonso Jackson - Secretary of Housing and Urban Development - following reports that Jackson told a business group in April 2006 that he once canceled a contract after the contractor criticized President Bush, an investigation by the HUD inspector general found that while Jackson told his deputies to favor Bush supporters, there was "no direct proof that a contract was actually awarded or rescinded because of political affiliation." A second, criminal investigation was triggered in part by Jackson's claim before Congress in May 2007 that "I don't touch contracts." That probe, now before a federal grand jury, has turned up evidence that Jackson may indeed have touched contracts - and steered them towards friends.

Giuliani's campaign revolves around 9-11. He claims that other candidates underestimate the terror threat, that only he will keep America safe. But, despite many warnings, he did almost nothing to prepare New York for an attack. He admits that on September 11 he didn't know who Al Qaeda was. At Ground Zero today they are still digging the foundations for the new freedom tower. Before 9-11 the one thing Giuliani had done was to build himself, right next to this site, an emergency command centre.

Giuliani spent $60m on the command centre in the World Trade Centre. He installed a humidor for his cigars, monogrammed towels in bathroom, even had private elevator which was handy when he brought his mistress here at the weekends. But he also installed a 600 gallon fuel tank which meant that when burning debris hit the building it went up like a blowtorch So Giuliani found himself wandering the streets because he had ignored advice to put his command centre safely underground in Brooklyn. Insisting instead it had to be near City hall.

The scope of Barack Obama's victory in Iowa has shaken the Clinton machine down to its bolts. Donors are panicking. The campaign has been making a round of calls to reassure notoriously fickle "superdelegates" — elected officials and party regulars who are awarded convention spots by virtue of their titles and positions — who might be reconsidering their decisions to back the candidate who formerly looked like a sure winner. And internally, a round of recriminations is being aimed at her chief strategist, Mark Penn, as the representative of everything about her pseudo-incumbent campaign that has been too cautious, too arrogant, too conventional and too clueless as to how much the political landscape has shifted since the last Clinton reign. One adviser summed up the biggest challenge that faces the campaign in two words: "Fresh thinking."

Obama hates life.

As a nurse at an Illinois hospital in 1999, I discovered babies were being aborted alive and shelved to die in soiled utility rooms. I discovered infanticide.Legislation was presented on the federal level and in various states called the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. It stated all live-born babies were guaranteed the same constitutional right to equal protection, whether or not they were wanted.

BAIPA sailed through the U.S. Senate by unanimous vote. Even Sens. Clinton, Kennedy and Kerry agreed a mother’s right to “choose” stopped at her baby’s delivery.

The bill also passed overwhelmingly in the House. NARAL went neutral on it. Abortion enthusiasts publicly agreed that fighting BAIPA would appear extreme. President Bush signed BAIPA into law in 2002.

But in Illinois, the state version of BAIPA repeatedly failed, thanks in large part to then-state Sen. Barack Obama. It only passed in 2005, after Obama left.

I testified in 2001 and 2002 before a committee of which Obama was a member.

Obama articulately worried that legislation protecting live aborted babies might infringe on women’s rights or abortionists’ rights. Obama’s clinical discourse, his lack of mercy, shocked me. I was naive back then. Obama voted against the measure, twice. It ultimately failed.

In 2003, as chairman of the next Senate committee to which BAIPA was sent, Obama stopped it from even getting a hearing, shelving it to die much like babies were still being shelved to die in Illinois hospitals and abortion clinics.

Cheap GOPig swiftboater lies about Obama's record...the Illinois bill was NOT the same as the nat'l bill and contained a cheap attempt to overturn Roe:

In his own words..."You know, if Ambassador Keyes had called me up, he could have saved himself a trip because existing Illinois law mandates that any infant that has a chance for survival is provided life-saving treatment. Not only that, you?ve got to have a second doctor there to certify that in fact that is the case. That continues to be the case, that is current law today, as it should be.
Now, the bill that was put forward was essentially a way of getting around Roe vs. Wade, which is why 21 other senators, Democrat and Republican, why the Illinois Medical Society objected to the bill. At the federal level there was a similar bill that passed because it had an amendment saying this does not encroach on Roe vs. Wade. I would have voted for that bill."

To start with, about the Catholic school, Fransiskus Strada Asisia, which Obama attended 1967-70 (words in square brackets are added by me):

Interviews with dozens of former classmates, teachers, neighbors and friends show that Obama was not a regular practicing Muslim when he was in Indonesia, despite being listed as a Muslim on the registration form for the Catholic school, Strada Asisia, where he attended 1st through 3rd grades. At the time, the school most likely registered children based on the religion of their fathers, said [Israella Pareira] Darmawan, Obama’s former [1st-grade] teacher. Because Soetoro was a Muslim, Obama was listed as a Muslim, she said.

The enrollment form from the Catholic school, which has been cited as evidence that Obama was a Muslim in Indonesia [including by the Los Angeles Times], also was rife with errors. It listed Obama as an Indonesian, listed his previous school incorrectly and failed to list his mother, Ann, at all.

About Obama’s time at a public elementary school, 1970-71, variously known as the Sekolah Dasar Nasional Menteng No. 1 or the Basuki school, Barker writes:

When Obama attended 4th grade in 1971, Muslim children spent two hours a week studying Islam, and Christian children spent those two hours learning about the Christian religion.

During a recent visit to this public school, Barker found that:

Weekly religious classes are required for all students, whether Muslims, Christians, or Hindus, under the government curriculum. A new shiny mosque is in the corner of the courtyard. “The Muslims learn about Islam, prayer and religious activity,” said Hardi Priyono, the vice principal for curriculum. “And for the Christians, during the religious class, they also have a special room teaching Christianity. It’s always been like that.”

About Obama’s step-father, Lolo Soetoro and his religiosity, Barker writes:

In their first neighborhood, Obama occasionally followed his stepfather to the mosque for Friday prayers, a few neighbors said. But Soetoro usually was too busy working, first for the Indonesian army and later for a Western oil company. “Sometimes Lolo went to the mosque to pray, but he rarely socialized with people,” said Fermina Katarina Sinaga, Obama’s 3rd-grade teacher at the Catholic school, who lived near the family. “Rarely, Barry [a nickname for Barack] went to the mosque with Lolo.”

Barker learned from his friends and family that Lolo Soetoro, who died in 1987, was “much more of a free spirit than a devout Muslim” and “hardly the image of a pious Muslim.”

His nephew, Sonny Trisulo, 49, said Soetoro always liked women and alcohol. One of his health problems was a failing liver. “He loved drinking, was a smart and warm person, the naughtiest one in the family,” Trisulo recalled.

As for Zulfan Adi, cited in the Los Angeles Times piece:

Zulfan Adi, a former neighborhood playmate of Obama’s who has been cited in news reports as saying Obama regularly attended Friday prayers with Soetoro, told the Tribune he was not certain about that when pressed about his recollections. He only knew Obama for a few months, during 1970, when his family moved to the neighborhood.

Does any of the above information from the Chicago Tribune article refute my analysis, as MMfA contends? It raises questions about two details in the Los Angeles Times account (the accuracy of the Catholic school’s registration form and the reliability of Zulfan Adi as a source on Obama). But on the larger issue of Obama’s religious practices during his Jakarta years, it confirms the Times account. Note in particular three excerpts from Barker’s article:

· “Interviews with dozens of former classmates, teachers, neighbors and friends show that Obama was not a regular practicing Muslim when he was in Indonesia” – implying he was an irregularly practicing Muslim.

· “Obama occasionally followed his stepfather to the mosque for Friday prayers, a few neighbors said” – confirming that he did pray in the mosque.

· “Obama’s 3rd-grade teacher at the Catholic school, who lived near the family [said that] ‘Rarely, Barry went to the mosque with Lolo’” – confirming that Obama attended mosque services.

All this matters, for if Obama once was a Muslim, he is now what Islamic law calls a murtadd (apostate), an ex-Muslim converted to another religion who must be executed. Were he elected president of the United States, this status, clearly, would have large potential implications for his relationship with the Muslim world.

In sum: Obama was an irregularly practicing Muslim who rarely or occasionally prayed with his step-father in a mosque. This precisely substantiates my statement that he “for some years had a reasonably Muslim upbringing under the auspices of his Indonesian step-father."

Therefore, what MMfA calls the “Obama-Muslim falsehood” is in fact confirmed by both articles as truthful and accurate.

Calling this a falsehood is in itself a falsehood.

"How to Rig an Election: Confessions of a Republican Operative."

Raymond describes his career in opposition research and political dirty tricks, outlining some tactics he observed or participated in.

Here's a handy check list of ways to rig an election, based on Raymond's account:

Orchestrate a series of prerecorded calls to Republican caucus-goers in Iowa in which you accuse your opponent of floating in balloons and riding around on motorcycles wearing leather chaps. (In 1996, Bob Dole's campaign set up the calls to damage the chances of Steve Forbes, although the charges actually applied to Forbes' father, Malcolm Forbes.)

Concoct a phony press release on your opponent's letterhead that contradicts his "pro-life" position on abortion (Forbes was confronted with the release, reputedly created by unnamed opposition strategists, on NBC's "Meet the Press.")

Make calls to Democratic union households taped by actors putting on thick Spanish accents, "figuring union workers were the voters who felt most threatened by immigration."

Call 8,000 Republican county committee members at home in the middle of the Super Bowl on behalf of your opponent, enraging all those couch potatoes.

Tobin and state official Chuck McGee were later convicted of charges related to the ploy, which helped John Sunnunu win a 19,000-vote victory to the Senate over Democratic Gov. Jeanne Shaheen.

Defense lawyers were paid more than $6 million by GOP committees to defend Tobin.

You forgot a few...

...go to Republican blogs and spew crap about how "only" Republicans are corrupt or use dirty tricks in the course of political campaigning...

Please, don't ever complain about "dhimmitude" again. You're already subjugating yourself to Osama's wishes.

You know, I love how one head of the Republican hydra is always screaming "Parents should choose what their children learn about sex, evolution, religion -- parents should choose the children's religion, and bring then up in any religion they wish."

So, let's assume for the sake of argument that Obama's parents chose to bring him up Muslim.

He grows up, now he can make his own choices, and he has chosen to be a Christian.

But now the other head of the hydra is screaming "oooh, he was a Muslim when he was little, we can't possibly vote for him! He might still be secretly Muslim, even!"

Even though being a Muslim when he was little was not his choice, and Christianity has triumphed in his case, because he is now a Christian.

Seems like a classic catch-22.

It whines -- disengenuously (without even knowing the meaning of the word):

Why is Obama the leading candidate yet he has never even passed a bill in his home state. Do qualifications even matter any more?

I don't know...maybe brains and political orientation are more important to some of us than stupidity, a rich daddy, an animal abusing past and a bought and paid for governorship. Or do you prefer the widley experienced gov of Arkansas?

Yes, PS, didn't everyone make fun of Spain for electing the dude who would piss off Osama the least? Why is that now the right thing to do? HELLO?!

Poor creeturs don't have much to hang onto anymore...Obama's childhood upbringing and Byrds ancient history klan membership...both of which they've long left behind...these people hate anyone who shows an abiity to learn and grow.

GOP Economy...
UK living standards are set to overtake those in the United States this year for the first time since the 19th century, research claims.

The UK's gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to rise to £23,500 per person during 2008, £250 more than the £23,250 GDP per head predicted for Americans, according to Oxford Economics.

and this is just the beginning...big downturn ahead ...the only good news is that it's just in time for the election

I agree, and disagree, Simes. Byrd was an adult when he made his klan-related decisions. It's a differnt fruit from 10-year-old Obama living in Indonesia. He was a FUCKING KID, people! His parents made the decisions for him where he would go to school and what religion he would practice.

Unless you want those same freedoms taken away from you (to decide what religion your kid will follow and where he will go to school), STFU about it.

Or are we now going to hold children responsible for their parents' actions?

Who said we can't vote for Osama because he's a Muslim?

All hypocrisyapostasy pointed out was Osama's religious heritage.

I thought Huckabee was supposed to be some religious zealot Baptist preacher and that Romney was a supposed to be a devil-worshipping Mormon.

And people have been attempting to intimate that calling Barack HUSSEIN Obama "hussein" is "disingenuous"...but it is apparent that he has earned the appellation "Muslim" legitimately.

And yes, Barack had the option of converting to a bizarre form of liberal-Christianity in this country and chose his own religion... something he would have been unable to do had he NOT been sent to live with his maternal grandparents in the USA. Since his father had been Muslim, Islam dictates he MUST remain a Muslim.

btw - Think the Saudi King is going to be able to sit down across from Obama and talk? I don't. In the eyes of the Saudi and ALL Muslim people, Obama is lower that a Jew.

Not that I give a crap. I love watching the little camel-humpers squirm. Watching them in negotiations with Madelleine Albright was a laugh riot well worth the price of her confirmation to State!

I'm not sure what this has to do with whether we should vote for him or not. Those are trying to spread rumors that he was a Muslim when he was little are doing it to discourage people from voting for him, right? The underlying assumption there is that Americans shouldn't vote for someone who has ever been a Muslim, even when he was little, but this is holding him responsible for his parents' choices because at the time he didn't have the opportunity to choose his religion (as the rightwingers want things to remain).

The other underlying assumption is that someone who was a Muslim when he was a child is more likely to be a secret Muslim now, simply by virtue of his childhood, with no other corroborating evidence, and that Americans shouldn't vote for him because he might be secretly muslim.

The whole logic of those spreading these rumors is bigoted and anti-Muslim.

It's not offending Osama or the Muslim world. But actually occupying a country is quite different from democratically electing a leader, don't you think? You're comparing apples to oranges.

Iraq death rate belies US claims of success
By Kim Sengupta
The death rate in Iraq in the past 12 months has been the second highest in any year since the invasion, according to figures that appear to contradict American claims that the troop "surge" has dramatically reduced the level of violence across the country.

The research comes from Iraq Body Count (IBC), which has extensive experience of working in the country, and concludes that deaths outside Baghdad actually rose until September.

The most lethal violence took place in Nineva, where the number of deaths rose by 143 per cent.

Dora...the pound is now about two dollars...it was about 1.40 in 2002, but it was at two dollars in '92, so if you measure from there the difference is nil. In the report they measured both US and Brit income in current pounds.

Man, talk about impaired...our killing, stealing and meddling in the mideast for the last hundred years is the same as electing a guy who spent part of his childhood in a Muslim home? You are living proof that the only wingbats left are the dregs of zombie culture.

OOOh, spreading the truth (not a rumour) is bigoted and anti-Muslim. And what would spreading LIES be? LOL! Especially the deliberate mis-stating of another person's intentions (something that another CANNOT know) like this little tidbit ("The underlying assumption there is that Americans shouldn't vote for someone who has ever been a Muslim, even when he was little, but this is holding him responsible for his parents' choices because at the time he didn't have the opportunity to choose his religion (as the rightwingers want things to remain).")?

Can't people simply be given information and be allowed to decide for themselves? Do you dispute the fact that he was a Moslem? No, you second guess people's "intentions" for presenting the facts. It's "bigotry" and "anti-Moslem".

Sen. Obama is a congregant of a church in Chicago called Trinity United Church of Christ. I recommend that you take a brisk tour of its Web site. Run by the sort of character that the press often guardedly describes as "flamboyant"—a man calling himself the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.—this bizarre outfit describes itself as "Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian" and speaks of "a chosen people" whose nature we are allowed to assume is "Afrocentric." Trinity United sells creationist books and its home page includes a graphic link to a thing called Goodsearch—the name is surmounted with a halo in its logo—which announces cheerily that "Every time you search or shop online! Our Church earns money." Much or most of what Trinity United says is harmless and boring, rather like Gov. Mike Huckabee's idiotic belief that his own success in Iowa is comparable to the "miracle" of the loaves and fishes, and the site offers a volume called Bad Girls of the Bible: Exploring Women of Questionable Virtue, which I have added to my cart, but nobody who wants to be taken seriously can possibly be associated with such a substandard and shade-oriented place.--Chris Hitchens
