Money Wins?

Ronald Reagan famously said "it's not that the Liberals don't know a lot of things, it that so much of what they know is wrong." I know this to be true. When I was a Liberal I thought I knew everything and, as it turns out, I was almost always wrong.

So many things that were just "true" because, well, that's what I'd been told and no one I ever met disagreed, have, in my enlightenment proved 180 degrees from reality.

The Vietnam War was not an "evil, illegal and immoral" war waged by evil and horrible Americans who saw money to be made in the "military-industrial boom" but an absolutely moral and just war fought to stop the spread of an evil empire that was already oppressing half of the people of Europe and spreading into another continent in Southeast Asia.

One of the "truisms" of America was that "money wins elections." This was simply a given not because I'd ever thought about it but because it's something repeated so often by those who denigrate America at every turn.

Yet, here we are and Mike Huckabee, who had no money, has been given a full and fair hearing. McCain, who was penniless not that long ago, is now the front-runner, Mitt Romney has all the money he needs, and yet he came in second to Huckabee in Iowa and McCain in New Hampshire and beneath both of them in South Carolina.

Meanwhile, on the leftist front, I don't think there are many people who believe that if the leftists pick Ms. Rodham-Clinton or Barack H. Obama, it's going to be because one or the other wasn't heard or seen enough.

Every time one of you complains about the system -- and there are things that can be made better about the system -- remember that this one slander (that in America money buys elections) has been proved wrong yet again.

Making the world safe for liberalism/democracy... Wasn't that Wilson's dream when the 16th Amendment kicked in? And almost immediately thereafter came "the war to end all wars" and "prohibition".

The DNC's religious crusade and temperance movement had begun! Hooray

To think that the Progressive Era and the Titanic were both launched in the same year! Divine Irony, I'd say.

Oh, so how you're blaming WWI on Wilson/Democrats/16th Amendment?

Whoa, I want a toke of what you're smoking, cuz it fucks you up goooood.

Oh, so how you're blaming WWI on Wilson/Democrats/16th Amendment?

Wilson ran on an anti-war platform. But as soon as the election was over, announced he had to make the world safe for democracy.

The republicans in 1916 were running on a platform that said Wilson wasn't keeping us neutral...

Jane said...

Um, but Wilson didn't start WWI. Wilson was elected in 1912. WWI started in 1914.

Did I mention that the Democrats stole the 1916 election by 3,000 votes in California

After all the Gay Mafia and Hormel's Knights of Spam-a-lot have done for the DNC, the payback lies in their "gay quota" of DNC convention delegates...

For example, a grass-roots group, the National Stonewall Democrats, is working to boost the number of gay and lesbian delegates at the Democratic National Convention. Spokesman John Marble said the goal is to have more than 320 such delegates out of a total of 4,049; that would be up from 282 gay delegates in 2004.

The long-term hope is that these gay delegates stay active in politics.

"In four or eight years, when the Democrats are competing again, we're hoping to present them with infrastructure we built this year," Marble said. "They'll have to interact with our community in much deeper ways."

Breaking Up Is Hard to Do
By PEGGY NOONAN
January 25, 2008

the conservative journalistic world is convulsed by recrimination and attack. They're throwing each other out of the party. Republicans have become very good at that. David Brooks damns Rush Limbaugh who knocks Bill Kristol who anathematizes whoever is to be anathematized this week. This Web site opposes that magazine.

The rage is due to many things. A world is ending, the old world of conservative meaning, and ascendancy. Loss leads to resentment. Different pundits back different candidates. Some opportunistically discover new virtues in candidates who appear at the moment to be winning. Some feel they cannot be fully frank about causes and effects.

I love this line... "They'll have to interact with our community in much deeper ways."

12/2005

DNC Chairman Howard Dean unofficially endorsed a move by gay Democrats to require the party to guarantee that 5 to 10 percent of their '08 convention delegates are gay or lesbian.
"Of course that's a good idea," Dean said during a meeting with the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender caucus Friday evening.

The caucus unanimously passed a resolution urging the DNC to do so. Dean agreed to consider the move. "But I can probably tell you right now that I think it's a good idea."

"The only problem is that you can't tell by looking at somone whether they're gay. At least I can't because my gaydar isn't that good," Dean said to laughter from the caucus.

How much you wanna bet Howard stiffs 'em at the convention?

So, we're down to nutcases who don't believe in the income tax, now?!! You're right...we wouldn't have the war...or anything else.

Coercive socialism is bad because...duh, I guess society should not have laws. Better to not have laws, I guess, so corporations can coerce labor and run roughshod over everything and everyone. Naive, little twits.

Whereas the Repubs have now morphed into a party for straight white christian men and the women who obey them only. Lincoln, Teddy, I don't care. Teddy was a progressive anyway. The GOP is now a party for a very specific demographic, and everyone knows it.

How do I know? Look at their candidates at the debate. You see anyone blackish (Alan Keyes was at 1 debate, and is not a real candidate)? Hispanicish? Asianish? Jewish? Muslimish? Gayish? Womanish? No? Huh, fancy that.

Most black, womany, jewy, asian, hispanicy, gayish politicians are Democrats.* **

* Except for those closeted gays, which is a special case, cuz you can't be a closet Jew, etc.

** Oh, wait, George Allen, of "macaca" fame, he was a closet Jew, and look what happened to him.

Say larry,

Have you signed up for your quota spot at the convention yet?

Become a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention!

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) voters are one of the most loyal voting-blocks in the Democratic Party – second only to the African American community. We are everywhere and we vote!

We have earned our seat at the table and it is now time to make sure we have a strong voice in selecting the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee at the National Convention August 25-28 in Denver. This is our chance to be a part of the solution this country so desperately needs.

National Stonewall Democrats (NSD) worked closely with the National Committee’s LGBT Caucus to push every state to set goals for LGBT delegates to the convention. But goals are nothing if they are not met.

That’s where you come in. We need you and LGBT Democrats in every state to run for national convention delegate. NSD has put together Pride in the Party to help you run for delegate..

Just sign up and we’ll make sure the campaign of your presidential candidate knows you want to be a delegate. Campaigns are looking for LGBT Democrats just like you who support them, who want to run for delegate, and who want to be a part of electing a Democratic President. (But they can’t talk to you if they can’t find you. That’s why you need to sign up!)

Be sure to also check out the “Delegate Information” where you can download information about your state’s delegate selection process. Our summary shows the filing deadlines and filing requirements. It also provides information about contacting your State Democratic Party. (Most State Parties have information and filing forms on their website.)

Good point. I guess if he were bi, that would be awesomest.

I was thinking, I bet the "shocked, SHOCKED!" wives of Ted Haggard, LArry Craig & Co. were aware that something was up, but turned a blind eye to it because being married to those guys did bring them material affluence, power and influence, and the ability to not have to make their own living.

Like, how many women would agree to marry someone who is secretly gay in exchange for never having to work, fulfilling their dreams of a purdy purdy princess wedding, spawning, and being the wife of the head of a huge church/the wife of a senator? I bet a lot of people would go for it.

Well, for one, Bill isn't gay. He loves women, LOVES 'em. But yeah, it's a similar situation, except Hillary had her own goals and her own career and only had 1 kid. Plus, I think she and Vince Foster were having an affair? With the Clintons, it's much more of a two-way street, I think.

So now you're calling Hillary gay? What's the benefit to Bill from marrying a crypto-lesbian? He's had to make his own career.

I think that if both people have lucrative careers, it's more complex than with Mrs. Craig/Mrs. Haggard, who are just stay-at-home mom leeches.

For that matter, why don't we socialize prostitution? I mean, it is a basic human right to have lots and lots of sex with lots and lots of women. The whole world revolves around it - and I can see that now that I've moved to the left. Now I can't turn back - I'm not an ambi-turner. Thank you Dora... You're my savior! You know, there was a moment last night, when she was sandwiched between the two Finnish dwarves and the Maori tribesmen, where I thought, "Wow, I could really spend the rest of my life with this woman". For serious. Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

Annie razed McCain: Coulter claims she would back Hillary
We know the far right is upset with McCain as nominee but this is really going too far: Ann Coulter asserting on Fox News that if he gets the nomination she would not only "vote for" Hillary, she would "campaign for her if it's McCain." She told Sean Hannity last night that Clinton "is more conservative than he is" and added that in that scenario "she will be our girl." As president, Hillary would be "stronger in the war on terrorism" and would not pull the troops out of Iraq -- she jumped to her feet at the State of Union speech when Bush said the surge was working. Hannity countered: "McCain did support the war." She pointedout: "So did Hillary."

Alan Colmes, enjoying it all immensely, said Hillary would likely say "no" to the campaign offer. But Coulter plunged ahead: "Hillary is absolutely more conservative" and moreover "she lies less than John McCain. And she's smarter than John McCain so when she lies she knows it....John McCain is not only bad for Republicans he is also bad for the country." Hannity clearly doesn't fully agree, but like Coulter hates his anti-torture stance.
